Default Hand Brake

Even when in neutral, when I put the hand brake on the car will roll for a second before it stops. It is not the same problem that someone else had on here while back because it does hold the car, just that initial roll back for a second worries me that somehting is not right. Is this normal for the 350?

You have to pull the emergency brake pretty tight on the Z... just give that yank a little more strength.

Thats not really the issue. I can pull very hard and it will hold the car on any grade, but there is an initial little roll back before the car stops (this is on neutral, so no, it is not the gear that is catching the car). Does anyone know the mechanics of the parking brake on the Z?

Leave your car in gear when you park. I've found that the parking brake isnt adequate on even the smallest of inclines.

I know, I know. I do leave it in gear when I park, but I just wanted to rule out that it was the gear that was catching the car, so I tried it in neutral. Now I know hat my parking brake is working well, but just want to know whats up with that initial little roll back before it catches.

Ohh...

well you have me stumped there. I guess maybe the wheels have rotate ever so slightly before the brake engages? (maybe) I have no idea. VQ?

I think I read that there is an aux brake shoe for the emergency brake that little bit of roll you feel is probably just the shoe pivoting into position.

I too seem to have to pull the brake maybe a second time... due to rolling. I am taking my car in for servicing tommorow for this. Have ne of you guys taken your cars for servicing for the hand brake before?

Raise the lever slowly and count the clicks. IIRC, the proper amount to fully set the brake is 6 or 7. It takes quite a bit of effort on my car to get the last 2.

Mine does not have the problem you are talking about. Normal yank and it is set well, even in neutral (6MT). No roll. Take it in and have it adjusted immediately. My 2001 Tahoe has a foot brake. When I bought it new it would go to the floor and held OK. I moved to Texas and had it inspected for tags and it failed the test. Took it in to dealer and they said I should have brought it in before 12 months. A little screaming and so on and it was fixed. Now it goes half way down to floor. I thought it was fine when I bought it, so get it checked out if it rolls at all! My Z has 3700 miles and no roll. TMO
