Nissan Pre-Order letter.....it's over.
My dealer faxed this to me today. Is anyone else disappointed Nissan was only able to sell ~6500 cars in five months? I know this was a rather stealthy campaign but that is a far cry from the 2500 cars/month pace they are hoping for when the general sales begin.

According to an article that came out last week in (I think) Autoweek (it has been posted here) Nissan had sold 6500 Zs by last Monday. Considering their stated goal was to sell 7000 pre-order Zs, I would say they came pretty close because they probably sold several hundred in the last week.

Wow!
It's over!
I don't know about the rest of you who pre-ordered, but this is kind of exciting news. I feel like we have reached a milestone in our pre-order adventure.
The Pre-Ordering is Over!
Long Live the Pre-Orderers!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting that fax Tim.
My Name is Jeff, and I am a pre-orderer.

Great Post, thank you.
It does feel like a club now!!
It seems like the pace of orders did pick up as time went on,
but 6500 doesn't seem like a big start. Thats fine with me !!

6500 isn't many? My wife drives an IS300 sportcross, and they have sold less than 1000 of them since october. Of course, Lexus hasn't advertised either, but they have only been producing 5-25 of them per month

Pre-order numbers
Remember, it is potentially better for the dealers to NOT have to sell Z's as pre-orders. If Nissan was putting pressure on them to sell at MSRP, it is possible that once the car is out there it will sell above MSRP. That is good for the dealers. Edmunds.com is already listing the value of the car as about $2K or so over MSRP.

Preorders
Yeah, this isn't like pre-ordering a DVD movie or something. To be honest, I was pretty skittisk pre-ordering a car I had never driven. If I hadn't been able to get a refundable deposit, I wouldn't have done it.
Exsillio, if the car is really going for 5-10K over MSRP this fall, I think we will all be really happy with our purchase. I would be surprised if that happened, but hey, look at the S2000 and the PT Cruiser.

Not disappointed at all. The entire country is fixated on large and ugly SUV's. I really like the idea of not a ton on the road as long as Nissan still thinks sales justify continuing production and future development.

she also said that all the pre-orders should be shipped at the same time regardless of order date...she said pre-order is pre-order...she did confirm the aug-nov date as if a 4 month gap is hard to fill...
