Default 350Z 4 Cylinder??

Just wondering; would you still own your 350Z if it was a four cylinder making 185 horsepower.....

It better be a whole lot cheaper, and it shouldnt be called a 350Z either. If you are switching vehicles then you will kick yourself in the nuts.

the concept before this one in 1999 was a 4 cylinder, 240z. It went over like a lead balloon, but it was also ugly. I would take a nice looking light weight 2.4l hipo 4 cyl. car though.

if it was a 4 cylinder similar to a 4g63 or an sr20 then hell yeah. but if its a 4 cylinder 2.0 similar to the mazdaspeed engine then no way.

It would depend on whether it was correctly executed. I don't think anyone ever regreted having the MR2 MkII which was a 4-cyl. 2.0 liter Turbo putting out 245HP in JDM trim. The 3SGTE engine in that was based on the Toyota MKIV racing block. They are capable of buildouts to 600+ HP.

SO if the Z were a 4 banger along those lines, I would go for it!

Yeah, and it's weight would need to be under 2000 lbs.

The only 4 cylinder on the market today that I would have instead of a Z is a Lotus Elise.

Keep dreaming. With all the safety regulations to be passed nowadays, thats nearly impossible.

I had a '93 240sx. 165 hp 4-banger, handled as good as the Z, and it weighed about 500 lbs less. Of course, I also had the option of importing the prestigious SR20 and ten years of aftermarket parts.

Before my Z I owned a 1989 240sx, w/ Silvia front end conversion and Sr20DET running 14 psi.
Full Energy polyuretahne kit (including rear subrame assembly inserts and steering rack bushings), Eibach springs, KYB shocks..

Fast and gorgeous it was...but no AC, Radio, speakers, headliner glovebox,.. all noise insulation removed etc etc,... the Z is more of a grand tourer compared to that other car.

But I am getting older (just turned 38) and I guess I need softer cars now.

...or you are finally coming to your senses.

Albeit, if Nissan still produced the 240sx or a RWD 4-cylinder, I would have bought that.

My old S13 was a base weighing in at 2600 I we removed headliner trim pieces all over all noise insulations luxury items, the silivia front end coversion is lighter than stock as is the Sr20DET is lighter than KA24de.

End result a 2400 lbs car with 230 whp (was only 3 k away from rock reliable 360 rwhp)

I owned an RSX that OWNED my stock 350Z, THAN when I turboed it I owned my Z more

But seriously.. The RSX is a 210HP (about 175 to the wheels) 2.0 4cyl that kicks ***.. Fastest FWD N/A car on the market I believe?

LOL...If I wanted 180 HP and a nice looking car, I would have bought the Celica GT-S.

I actually considered the Celica GT-S, but I previously owned a '93 MR2 and after a few months, I was desperate for more than 135 HP....I didn't want to go there AGAIN!

Nope, I wouldn't, I can barely stand the exhaust sound now, BUT, if it had a big engine bay like the 240Z did, I might and then swap a V8 in it .

Fastest FWD NA 4 cylinder maybe, but there are several larger NA 6 cylinder family sedans (Maxima, Altima, TL-S, and the Accord V6 6MT just off the top of my head) that are quicker than the RSX-S.
