Default scale weight of Enthusiast model

Weigh my car today on truck scales. With a full tank, clear bra, tinted windows, 235 front and 275 rear tires, stock rims, flow master 80 muffler, pre muffler removed, harness system and a camera mount, the car weight is 3245 lbs. Not sure where all this weight comes from.

That sounds right in line with Nissan's official number -- no surprises there. Nice to confirm it, though!

How do the 275s fit on the stock rims? What type and size did you get?

That's not a bad number, weight wise. A full tank of gas is nearly 200lbs by itself. The Z has a large tank.

7*20=140lbs, but close enough, figure it at qaurter tank for race and you at 35lbs of gas, and 105lbs lost, also remove spare and jack and you save 50lbs. all in all your about 150$ lighter than you weighed in at if you have time to prepare. (3100lbs give or take)

not bad at all.

Default reply to muffler and tire sizes

The flowmaster muffler sound great. Nice low rumble with a burble when you let off to shift. Removing the pre muffler gives the sound a rasper higher tone and a snarl effect. No major power changes noticed either way but a great sound to my ears.

The 275/40/17 tires on the rear work well. I had my doubts but both Firestone and Discount Tire agreed they would work on 8" rims. The fronts are 235/45/17. Both are stock offsets and are within tolerance for over all diameter difference. The tires are Firehawk SZ50 EP.

I'll have a video clip with sound in a couple weeks.

Dumb question:

Why would you put a new set of tires on a brand new car and keep the same size rims?

Gasoline weighs 6.17lbs/gallon at 60* F, so thats about 123lbs assuming 20 gallons in the tank.

ya but only filling up 1/4 tank and takin spare and jack out is only removing weight from the rear end of the car... granted weight is weight but still i'd like to see what happens to the balance of the car when you do this

oh wait you were probably talking about drag racing..in that case ya whatever

that's odd, I have a friend who claims they weighed a Track and an Enthusiast at the same time and once you account for the difference in gas tank volume they are trying to claim that their Enthusiast model is 170# lighter than the Track model, both are supposedly in factory supplied trim. This doesn't jive at all with the Nissan specs.

Not sure if they're just blowing smoke or possibly toking on to generate it.

I thought the enthusiast was supposed to be lighter than the track?

27# is the difference in the Nissan curb weight spec, these guys are claiming it's an additional 140# lighter than the spec listing difference; that's with the spare, OE exhaust, etc. still in place.

That also doesn't jive with the weights posted here by other Enthusiast owners. Sounds like somebody made a mistake or is trying to pull a gag. Specifically, they are claiming their Enthusiast with 5 gal. fuel and otherwise exactly as supplied by the factory weighs 3010#. I haven't heard or seen anyone even remotely close to that weight even with the spare removed, Ti exhaust, LTW wheels etc.

Smells like poopy to me.

The curb weight and tested weight in the various reviews has me perplexed. Some differ by nearly 200 lbs over what Nissan claims the weight to be.Very confusing. If there is one fault in the Z I would say the weight is it.

that is b/c when you compare the car without driver, fluids, and testing equipt VS WITH all those things, it should be about 200-300lbs. But your right there are NO clear cut #s (I have seen the same problem on MANY cars, I have seen a range of 3400-4000+ lbs for my dads CLK55, talk about variance, I am assuming that the 4000+ weight was a mistake and they put in the wt for a "CL" and NOT the "CLK")

the bottom line is we know the performance #s on tha car, which is WHY we are so concerned with wt in the 1st place, so when the BOTTOM line is so good (performance #s-1/4, 0-60, Gs, slalom, braking, etc....) I don't worry to much about 100#s (in other words I would rather have a car that does 0-60 in 5.4 @3200 lbs, than a car that does 0-60 in 6.2 @ 2500lbs)

i totally agree. this is one of my concerns. i keep seeing a large variance in weights of the z. the R&T annual issue listed the track z at 3435lbs. I originally thought that was the weight of the writer, but the writer(Douglass Kott ) weight can't fluctuate that much(between 140-170 lbs).

i would luv to see or get it down to <3100lbs, and ~ 300hp.

It could be options added on to the Track model too. Say airbags, floor mat, trunk mat, and all those other goodies you can get. Plus isn't there traction control and other protection systems on the Track the Base or Enthusiast model doesn't have? It all adds up at the end.
