if you can get it for MSRP, consider it a victory. Anything less than that is a miracle.

What about for options? Do (did) you pay MSRP for those as well?

Default pay msrp and no more

Watch out for some dealers tactics. They will say they are paying MSRP but then gouge you on extras. One delay even made it so you have to order 2K of add ons from them plus pay MSRP. The best i have heard is MSRP but usually you have to order.

Good luck on the wheelin' and dealin'. Best I found was MSRP. Good thing is that I get the final price in writing, so I know exactly what I'm gonna have to pay when I finally get my baby!

I'd be willing to bet that they will be asking more than MSRP for the Track that was traded in.

Yea, at the local dealership a 1,000 mile track Z in silver is being marked up 5,000 over sticker... That's a USED car...WITH a significant markup.

Sorry CA and FL people . . . but the guy is freaking Buffalo. I think if you bargain very hard, you can get one brand new for maybe $500 off. Wait a few months and I bet it will be 1k off.

Well we know the owner, so if the car is used, he can actually give us a discount as he can't with a "new" car...

I checked around and you won't beat MSRP in Western NY unless you have some connection or something...

From my experience the Track around FL goes for MSRP to 39,000 due to add-ons like NAV and side airbags.

But you should have no problem getting MSRP if you pay over that go to another dealer. Or call 3-5 first. And just ask what they go around for. And if there is a possiblity to get one around MSRP they should tell you.

Default Buy from the man who is selling

If you know the person who is trading it in, buy it from him. He should agree to this as you will pay him more than the dealer will pay for a trade in.

What am I missing here?

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on how bad the dealer wants it, too. Plus, if the guy trades it in, the value of the Track would be subtracted from the sales price of the car he will buying so that he would pay sales tax on a lesser amount. That could be a $2k difference right there (depending on trade-in allowance and tax rate).

In other words, in this example you would have to pay him $2k more than the dealer was offering for him just to break even. Of course, the dealer might mark it up $3-5k after he gets it........so, if that is the case, you would save some money there.
