Lightbulb Something New I Just Discovered!

Now this may have been posted a dozen times here (or it may be in the fine print of the owner's manual) -- but if it was I never saw it. I just discovered that when you hold down the "unlock" on the key chain for a few seconds, the windows roll down. Does anyone know a way to roll them back up, without having to put the key in the ignition, which is a pain-in-the-butt if you weren't planning on starting the car.

Yes....it's a little tricky, but you have to pull up on the button for a few seconds.

yeah you can also put the windows up or down by putting the key in the door keyhole, and holding it to the right or left for a few secs

The windows will not come up by holding down the "lock" button. You can thank the lawyers for that. I have the same feauture on my BMW.

also- if you turn off the engine and realize you left the windows down...they still work for 45 seconds.

What? Is this a legal thing? The windows in my Audi A4 open when I hold the unlock button, and close when I hold the lock button. My sunroof is a bit different: it will close with the lock button, but will not open with the unlock button.

The reason they do that is so that you can crack the window open on those hot summer days. ya know the 120 F days.

Sure, remote window control is a great feature! (It's especially great for rolling down all the windows while walking towards the car, so it's cooled down by the time you get to it and have to get in.) But I'm most curious about NUJOYZ's post above about thanking the lawyers for his windows not going up with the remote. Didn't know what that was about.

I would assume its a liability thing, a young child might have their fingers on the window, and if you are rolling them up remotely, you wouldn't see the fingers sturck, or hear them yelling. Of course there are two problems with that theory: 1) most cars, and I assume the Z is included will stop going up and immediately come back down whenever there is any slight downward pressure; and 2) WADAFUC are you doing rolling up windows remotely when your baby is in the car!

That feature is actually really good for those of us up north who drive the car in the winter. We can test to see if the windows are frozen before trying to open the door and messing up something...

Default Brutal but I laughed out loud.

I am glad Robbyn got a straight answer. Remote rolling UP of windows is a severe violation of safety principles.

Much more dangerous than, say, selling a car that tops out at 155 MPH with no Mods.

Although my Z isn't in yet (a long story regarding my Z being held up at the docks), I thought you could auto-roll up the windows, but not via the remote. I thought it works if you lock the doors via the key in the driver's door. (holding it for a few seconds).

That's been part of the Nissan remote keyless entry system for a while. Welcome to the family.

Default the lawyers comment

I'm sure he was refering to windows moving without safety stops.

This is why many cars these days will 'auto' roll a window down, but only nicer cars will auto roll them UP. Because down doesn't require safety stops, but rolling up does. The Z already has safeties for rolling up though.. so I'm not sure why you can't roll them up from the remote.
