'05 Z or '05 Vette?
If you had the money, which would you go for & why?
I was considering the Z, but considering some of the problems I've seen here in various threads, I'm not so sure. Nissan doesn't seem all that concerned about it's customers, from what I've read here.
I prefer Japanese sports cars, but the Vette is the only American made car I'd consider.

If I had the money I would go with the Vette. I am going to autocross in the stock class, which means no modding so I prefer Vettes power and torque. I do like the looks too thou.

Well given that a vette is a good 15-20k more than a Z, it puts a whole different category of cars in the picture. If i had 50k instead of 30k to spend on a car, id personally pick the M3 instead of the vette or Z.

I would avoid the all new Vette. They already have a recall. Even the C5s have below average reliability. The 05 Z should be flawless. Even my 03 Z the early model is reliable. I do have the $ to finance a Vette. But dont want to be stuck with a problem vehicle.

Vladstuff, Between the two, if money was no object, I'd get the Vette. The C-6 is a sexy looking car, has awesome performance, and reasonable gas mileage. For me, money is an object and the Z represents a damn fine value for a true sports car. In spite of the complaints about tire wear on the Z, Nissan has an excellent reputation for making a quality automobile and I doubt that the Vette could match that. I have a 98 Maxima that I bought new and its been a completely satisfying ownership experience. If my new Z proves to be as trouble free I'll be completely happy. Tire wear on a sports car... frankly I don't care. I've waited for the '05 model year and I suspect that Nissan has done their homework and gotten the bugs out. My choice is for the Z. You really have to ask yourself what you want in the car and what is important to you. Everyone has an opinion, but for your next car your opinion is the only one that counts! Rich

If you have the cash and/or can afford the payments, I'd get a vette. I was asking myself this very same question a week ago. I went and looked at them and found out a lease payment was going to be ~$750 and went and picked up the 35th instead.

Its a tough question. My dream car was the vette but since price was a concern and I really did love the looks of the Z I bought the Z. No regrets and my yearning for a Vette has gone away. Its fast enough for me and you don't see as many 350Zs as Vetts. They are both excellent automobiles so you just have to drive them both and make a choice.

Well, regardless what kind of car every car on it's first year will have some kind of problem. Between the two i would take the C6 Vette. The LS2's engine makes way more power than the previous generations Z06 LS6 engine. Even the torque curve is smoother and there is more of it.
BTW, i don't think the question was money based/related. It was just simply "which one would you pick" type of question. Basically Car for Car.

What's the purpose of the car?
Wkend/Daily drive?
If it's for a daily drive I will recommend the 350..but if u only drive on the wkend, the vette sounds good.
Think abt what are u gonna use it for....

Honestly this is no contest. c6 all the way. The Z is the bargain sports car, but if you have the cash a c6 is the way to go. But on the other hand I had the opportunity to buy a used c5 instead of a new z but opted for the z. New cars are the best.

both are great prices for what you get, however they are in totally different price ranges. If you take price out the Vette is better from almost every angle, except gas mileage.
As far as the problems you see with the Z... every car has little problems... and the Z has one of the most reliable performance engines on the market.
like you I also prefer japanese sports cars, so if I had the money for a vette I may hold off and see how much the GT-R is going to cost.

I'd get a Z and then mod it with the left over $. I'd also take an import over a domestic car for reliability and aesthetic reasons alone.
But then again, I'm not in my 40's and my hair isn't thining....I'm not allowed into the Vette owners club yet.
The Vette might peform well but that's the only thing I like about it. I'd rather get a cheaper car that's sexier and more fun to drive.

Good discussion!
I use my "Z" as a week-end cruizzer........now as for the choices...
I am comfortable with the Z mod capability mods up to 400hp...C06 levels....
Now if the money for the Z06 was no problem......Hmmmm...I think I might be in a Z06.......that is one NICE piece of engineering......props on 500 normally aspirated HP....and the interior is "tight".
