Default Synthetic Lube in manual Transmission (?)

Greetings all...

I just returned home from having the engine oil changed over from dino-stuff to synthetic (Mobil 1).

While I was waiting, I seemed to recall reading that some were using full synthetic in their manual transmissions (but I'll be darned if I can find the thread!). I recall claims of the transmission being "smoother."

So, the question is, did I just dream all of that, or have some of you changed over to synthetic transmission lube, and if so, what are you using?

Opinions?

Thanks,

Rob

When we did my flywheel a long time ago we also switched to synth tranny oil. I believe it was Castrol stuff of the same weight as stock. (It's important to use the weight recommended in manual.) To be honest I personally noticed no difference in the performance of the tranny. It's still notchy and hard to get into gear sometimes.

I put Redline MT90 and MTL Full Synthetic in my manual trans and the shifting is much smoother.

Which weight tranny oil did you guys use? I don't have my manual with me, so I don't recall what Nissan recommends.

Nissan says to use 75w85 Trans Fluid in cold climates or 75w90 is OK in warm climates- I only found 75w85 in "Nissan" Brand - imagine that

Redline MT90 is synthetic 75w90
Redline MTL is synthetic 70w80

I used 1 Qt of MTL and the rest (2.25 Qts) MT90

I've seen posts here claiming they got no shift improvement with this Oil or that they got grinding in a certain gear after the oil change.
So I can speak only for what this did for my car, but I am very happy with the improvement to the way my car shifts after I changed to this Oil.

I use Amsoil synthetic in my tranny and differential. Shifts are much smoother.

I am using an older Amsoil gear lube from a couple of years ago- Series 2000 75W-90. I agree that it vastly improved shifting.
The problem now is that Amsoil has reformulated their gear lubes and no longer produces any that they recommend/ meets spec for the Z. They have updated everything but their boat lubes to GL-5 and the MT requires GL-4.

Amsoil Series 2000 75W-90 really quieted my tranny, especially while in neutral (don't understand how). I bought mine at a Napa store so you might try one of those.

I belive a problem with most syn lubes is that, they are specedx GL-5.

But GL is the spec we need for our MT's.

I just got my transmission replaced so i still have to break it in... Neo Synthetic works good, Royal Purple works well, redline works well also. I've used these products in the past and have been very happy with them. When i had my Toyota tundra 4wd i used royal purple in the rear end and transfer case... i use mobil 1 in the engine... I tried mobil 1 in my transmission on my truck and it wasn't smooth so i stuck with royal purple.
