Default anyone raced 287 vs 300 (274 vs 260) yet??

I am wondering what the REAL world results are of the less torque and higher HP are vs the 287 motor???? I am starting to wonder (after reading the latest mag results) if it is actually slower???

I'm sure if there is a difference it's going to be VERY little. It's definitely a driver's race.

Ive got a friend that has an auto that will race me, but there will probably be a bigger difference in the auto and manual.

I would have to guess it would be pretty close off the line, and then the 300HP Z would start to slowly pull ahead after around 65 mph...

but thats just a guess

its so hard to know, the 350 is a relatively heavy car (for what it is) and I am not sure I would want less torque, esp off the line or at a track, but I wonder if -14 is all that much to make a difference????

Well, previous discussions have led to the fact that the new motor does have less PEAK torque, but it has a more usuable torque further into the powerband. As a result, it loses some low end power, but makes some decent gains in the mid-range and top end.

I think any difference will be nominal and it will truly be a drivers race.

C&D gave the 35th a 14.3@101 1/4 mile time (due to lack of traction).

From the reviews I've seen up to now

You can't say the 300hp motor is stronger in straight line. The time differences are inconclusive at best.

On a roadcourse, those extra 400rpm and 10hp come in VERY handy though.

and I have no ideal what the hell that means? a 3400 lb car with a wider 245 tires cant handle 300 hp and 260 ft/lbs of torque??? Is this some kind of joke??

There were tests in the last few years that had the touring and the track doing 5.3-5.4 0-60 times and even a 13.77 1/4mile. with smaller tires (very crappy tires at that and less overall weight), Go figure
