I am wondering what the REAL world results are of the less torque and higher HP are vs the 287 motor???? I am starting to wonder (after reading the latest mag results) if it is actually slower???

I would have to guess it would be pretty close off the line, and then the 300HP Z would start to slowly pull ahead after around 65 mph...
but thats just a guess

Well, previous discussions have led to the fact that the new motor does have less PEAK torque, but it has a more usuable torque further into the powerband. As a result, it loses some low end power, but makes some decent gains in the mid-range and top end.
I think any difference will be nominal and it will truly be a drivers race.

From the reviews I've seen up to now
You can't say the 300hp motor is stronger in straight line. The time differences are inconclusive at best.
On a roadcourse, those extra 400rpm and 10hp come in VERY handy though.

There were tests in the last few years that had the touring and the track doing 5.3-5.4 0-60 times and even a 13.77 1/4mile. with smaller tires (very crappy tires at that and less overall weight),
