Question Anyone Else Order a Z in November ?

I placed my order for a Daytona Blue Enthusiast on October 29th, and was given a proposed delivery date in March 2003. I was wondering if anyone else on this forum placed an order in late October or anytime during November. If so, were you told that it would be a 4 month wait? I'm just curious (and anxious).

Default November Order

I actually put down a deposit in early Octobert but my dealer couldn't order till November when his new allocations came through. I have been told late Jan early Feb. No one has said anything about March. Hope this helps

Default ordered in November

I ordered My 350z just this past week on November 13th, the dealer said it would be in March/April 2003. This is fine for me because I live in the Northeast so I dont want it for the winter anyway.

Cant wait until Spring

I also put a deposit in Oct. but order actually went in with their November allocation as dealers can only order at the beginning of each month. I was told mid Feb to March. The wait is tough but winter will take alot out of having one right away. Would hate to just get it and then have to put it in the garage for 4 months.

I was wondering about something. When you guys placed your recent orders for a 350Z, did your salesman tell you about the possibility of a price increase by February or March? My dealer advised me that the Z is never "price protected" and we will have to pay any increases in the MSRP at the time we take delivery. Let's keep our fingers crossed that Nissan holds off the increase until Spring.

I ordered mine in late October, and they told me late Feb delivery. They did make my deposite refundable though which was cool. The only thing that gets me is that I ordered a touring model, and it priced out to about $33,500, bt with TT&L it totaled to $36,000 does this sound right?

The $2,500 for sales tax and license transfer sounds about right (depending on which State you live in). Pennsylvania hits me with a 7% sales tax which will cost me over 2 grand for the Z. I am getting socked with another $130 to transfer my tags. But this car is certainly worth it - - just make sure that you are NOT paying a penny over MSRP for the 350Z.

I ordered my 350Z near the end of September and the order was placed at the beginning of October. I was not expecting the order to come in until the beginning of the year, but I was able to pick up a Z last week.

This may depend on the area you are in as well as other factors, but there seems to be a fair amount of people backing out of their orders, or not having enough money to buy, or "extra allocation" units available.

So keep your eyes peeled and your ears open, and keep calling and visiting dealerships in your area. You may get lucky. I am only one of a number of people that were able to pick up a Z much earlier than expected.

Hi There!
I placed a deposit in mid-October with my order to be placed in November. I confirmed my order number today and approximate delivery time stands at March '03 Works out okay for me to spare the car from the winter weather and gives me some more time to save up for the payments, insurance, etc.

Default ordered Nov 1

I put my order in in late Oct. wih then putting the order in for the November Allocation. They told me late January to Mid-feb. Of course, they are possibly guessing on ETA or telling me what i want to hear? Another thing is I guess they could tell me they ordered it for November allocation and then put the order in at a later date due to having more customer orders than allocated cars for that delership. I am only saying that becuse of the nightmare postings of people finding out their Z was never ordered. In the mean time, I am trying to find a Z being sold at MSRP that someone backed out of.

Just purchased mine today. Was told it would probably be March before I would see it.

BTW.....was able to purchase at $100 below M.S.R.P....believe it or not. I had to go through hell, but was able to get the deal done. Also, I had them sign something that they won't raise the price when I receive the car if the price was to go up, as I have heard they are raising them on Jan. 1st

I think I did pretty well, not sure if anyone has been able to pay under M.S.R.P. yet or not.......let me know.

I didn't get the "protected price" angle, but i did get some bs about 940.00 destination and handling charge. Manager said "because of dock strike Nissan has asked we double the cost of destination and handling, because of other workers being used". But I made them put in the contract that they would give me the diff back if it was less.

WOW! I hope you realize that this is pure, unadulterated B*** S***!

Nissan would not do that and your dealer is pulling a fast one. Call Nissan North America (1-800-NISSAN1) and check it out.

Good luck!

You must have a remarkable (or desperate) dealer to sign anything stipulating that you will not pay any increase in the MSRP. The MSRP is set by Nissan, and I believe that the dealers are required charge at least that amount. Just be careful that you don't get hit with some crazy additional charge like "dealer prep" when you pick up your car.

By the way where did you hear about a January 1st price increase? This is news to me.

Default Experience from the Northwest

I live in Portland, Oregon and ordered a new Z from a local dealer here. I ordered it Sept 14th with an expected delivery of Dec/Jan. The dealer along with all Nissan dealers in the Portland area, were trying to sell above MSRP for any unit they happend to have in stock and any units they expected to get in their next allocation.

Not wanting to pay over MSRP, I left the showroom saying I'd wait until Spring when they had inventory on the lot. The next day they called me back and agreed to order me a new Z at MSRP.

Friday night (11/15) I got a call from them saying they received their latest allocation and although they didn't have one with the same options as I ordered, they ask me if I wanted to take a look at what they had. I went by the dealership and they had received 5. One of them they traded with another dealer in order to get something close to what their customer wanted. They were getting that one ready for delivery. They offered to do the same for me (e.g. see if another dealer had one they could trade for) but indicated they probably couldn't find one with the exact same options I ordered. I decided to wait. We didn't talk about price, but I assumed they were still trying to get above MSRP, especially with a dealer trade involved.

I noticed a couple of things. Dealers are starting to get inventory that isn't pre-sold. For the first time, I saw they had both a demo unit and units in stock at this dealer. They are also starting to get creative on how to find you a car and close that sale now. For those of you who have delivery dates in the March time frame, I'll bet you start getting calls before then, offering you a similar, but maybe not an exact match if you're willing to take delivery earlier.

Also, IMO anything above MSRP whether it's paint protection or extra freight charges is just a disguise for higher profit to the dealer. Some dealers are more up front about calling it Added Dealer Markup and others try to hide it in other ways.

I'm not against paying over MSRP if you get the Z you really want, when you want it. It just that in my situation I get to drive (an older) Z until I get my new one and I can still manage my anticipation/excitement factor. I'm not sure how long that will last, though (lol). I know what you're going through....

I heard about the price increase from another dealer here in Denver that I originally went to, to purchase the beauty.

We were trying to put together a deal for a LeMans Track, that they were needing to order. They were making a really really big hassle out of the fact that they would need to order it. (They had 9 Z's on the lot and one was a track, but wrong color for me.)

After 3 hrs. of negotiation they finally said they would sell at M.S.R.P but weren't going to lock the price down, I would have to pay M.S.R.P at the time of delivery. I refused and that's when they said they weren't going to do the deal, citing the reason that the price will be raised on Jan. 1st and I obviously would be taking delivery after that.

The kicker is this.....when I got up to leave they said they would sell the Track model they currently have for $1000 under M.S.R.P........I said no and left. That car had 74 miles on it and I know it was being beat on and abused more then O.J. abuses and beats his girlfriends.
Later.

Very interesting !! I wonder if the dealer said that there will be an MSRP increase in January just to make that car on his lot look more tempting to you? To my knowledge, this is the only dealer that has said anything about a definite price increase in early 2003.
