Default Nissan Extended warranty; yes? no?

I need your opinion on nissans extended warranty. I am still under 1k miles and i can still purchase the 7yr/100k warranty if i wanted. i traded in my audi for a nissan cuz i wanted something reliable. when i left the dealership i figure i didnt need an extended warranty but after reading threads i am thinking about buying it. what i need to know is, would this be helpful? with all these threads about transmission problems, feathering in the wheels, it can hit the wallet pretty bad. also, the people with the extended warranties already, have you had any complications with the dealer to fix stuff? all suggestions and advice would be most helpful. z-pride

i have 7000 miles on my z and i am still deciding on the warranty issue..you have till the end of the 36000 miles to decide-- they will sell you the warranty untill then ..they make a BIG profit on the policy..buying it now does have certain advantages..like the rental car coverage and roadside aasit which come on the infinity but not on the nissan--if you get prices please let me know because of the large difference in cost and actual selling price negotiate HARD!! By the way I should get my z back next week i was rear ended with $10,000 damage but not totaled..

I bought my extended warranty from a dealer thats on this forum. He charged me $100 over invoice which sounds like a lot but its a better deal than the local dealer would do and since his dealership was out of state I didn't have to pay sales tax. PM me if you want his info... You just need to tell him your from the my350z.com forum and he will cut you a deal. He told me he could get other parts ordered for cheap too.

I bought the extended warranty and with over 22,000 miles on the vehicle I still have not used it. But I guess that's a good thing.

If you plan on keeping your car pretty much stock and keeping it for more then 3 years or 36k miles, then yes I would recommend the extended warrenty. If you think you will get a new car before the 3 years/36k miles or want to extreamly modifiy your car then I would skip the extended warrenty.

You might want to check out this site. Continental Warranty sells the same warranties the dealers do, but their price does not include the dealer markup/commission. They offer a 7 year extended warranty for the Z for $1568. I haven't decided to purchase one yet, but if I do it will be from them.

Uhm, I bought Nissan's Gold Preferred (7 years, but I think it's 84,000 miles; I'll have to look it up) from my Nissan dealer for about $500 less than this. You can deal on the cost of the warranty just like the cost of the car.

Not related to the Z, but I bought a 5yr/100k mile warranty for my Prelude from Honda. The only time I've had to use it was recently when I got my auto-tensioner for the timing belt replaced. The parts and labor for this job were covered.

IMO, the factory warranty is good enough. IIRC, its 5 years / 60k miles on powertrain, which includes engine and transmission. I don't see a need to cover anything beyond that.

In my case i cant get decent service under the present 3/36000 warranty, so depending on your situation and your service dept/dealership you might be throwing money down a hole. If your thinking about dumping the car in 3 years dont do it.

Nice deal. At this point, I don't know how long I'll be keeping the car. If I had to make the decision today, I'd trade in for an auto 'vette after 3-4 years (assuming I have the $). I've wanted a Z since they came out, but had to settle for an MGB in '70. But, frankly, I've wanted a 'vette since I was a kid in the '60's. Just couldn't afford the 'vette now with my 17 year old son getting ready to go off to college in a ~1 year.

i plan on keeping the car for awhile but then again, if i sell the car early, i'm sure it'll be an easier sell with an extended warranty contract. i'm looking at a 7yr extended, i'll pm some of you guys for info. thanks.

Just to correct the record. The term of my warranty is actually 72 months, but it is 100,000 miles.

Here is the bottom line on this subject, any major problems will happen the first 36 months, 3yrs and are covered at no cost. Unless you drive like a maniac and don't do the reccommended maintenance, the odds are you will have no major problems until you go over 100,000 miles. I told the finance guy that and he said it was the best response he ever had so it was end of discussion. I would not waste the money on the warranty. If you are nervous, put some money aside each month and be self insured to cover any expenses.

Now that's some solid advice. No extended warranty for me.

I bought the warranty and I do have the roadside assistance and rental with it. Also even if you buy it now, you drop anytime you want in the future and you only be charged for the time you had it. It's nice just in case your car gets, let say put out of commision, then you get a new one and not a dime out of your pocket.
