Lucky to be alive...
Well, last night, I was taking my friend out in a brand new '05 WRX Sti, out on Marshal-Petaluma Road before it connects with Highway 1...
SO I was sort of bookin it, having a good time, taking some nice sharp turns at some decent speeds, and was about 1/2 mile or so in front of him, well.......
He claims that a deer jumped out in front of him, he swerved, went down a 10 foot embankment through a wooden fence, got air, then down shifted lost even more control and went nose first and skidded to a stop into the side of a dirt hill, deployed both airbags, and severly ruined most of his front end.
He just got insured on the car that morning....
I think he lost control through one of the turns going a little too fast (near 60-70) because thats what I took the turn at (downhill) and I think he over corrected because he wasnt used to the stearing, freaked out, lost control went down the hill, dumped the clutch, pitched it, and then went right into the side of the hill... I'll have pics later, but I'm just glad he's ok...
oh, btw I wasnt really that impressed with the handling or the acceleration of the sti
I much prefer my Z

hope your buddy is okay. if you're in an accident, a subaru is a good car to be in (in a good way) i heard of countless stories of ppl walking away from bad accidents. like one of my cousins (totalled Sti after 2 months).
i have a cousin who is an insurance agent and risk management consultant. she said that she sees a higher accident rate with evos and sti's because the drivers typically try to push the limits of the car. basically someone how thinks since they are in an AWD car that they have the most control compare to fwd or rwd. i know there are responsible drivers out there. anyways, ppl whotypically buy evos or sti's are young 18-25 range, thats why insurance is so freaking expensive.

Yeah, He is ok, although I havent talked to him today, but yea, I had a feeling he was going to try and do something beyond his capabilities, he is only 18 (5k a year in insurance before this accident) and well he said that he was good, and he had had a decent amount of experience before this... Guess not enough

I'm not too sure about that, right now it seems to me like he feels he's even more invincible and that a "deer" was the reason he crashed, not him mistake, so I am not so sure as of now if he learned anything

No 18 year old is a good driver... period.
It's about seat-time, and 2 years is nothing.
Every 18 year old thinks he's a good driver though. That's part of being young and stupid, which your friend obviously is.
No offense meant, but it's all true.

Hopefully he will be rocking a Prius next. Nothing to be ashamed of in that anyhow.

theres a difference between being young and being just plain stupid. i will agree the two do go hand in hand many times, but you can be young and be a safe driver. It's unfortunate that this isnt usually the case. I hate reading posts like this knowing im getting a bad rep and paying much higher insurance rates because some irresponsible idiot is driving a car he/she obviously doesnt have the maturity to handle.

Yes, well you can stop calling him my friend, he has just decided that this is all my fault and doesnt want to be my friend anymore... and just so everyone is clear, there was no deer at all, he just could drive, at most might have been possom, he didnt even know if there was something when it all happened
