road trip tips
My car is coming in to Houston and I will have to drive it up to Dallas that same night for business, how should I handle the drive as far as not pushing it too hard the first day? It's about a 300 mile trip and I was hoping for some tips from you guys on what I should and should not do.
Set rev limiter to 4k-4.6k rpms if you have a manual tranny. Also vary rpms and speed when driving. Go for 10 minutes at 65 then 10 min at 75 then 10 min at 85 and keep varying. And try to listen for any problems that you may have, rattles, squeaks, stuff that should be there. And last but not least ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just watch out for those hillbillie cops in little towns like Risel (no offense to anyone if you're from there). Those little bastards love to pull people over for the slightest infractions b/c they're salaries depend on it!

On the highway, I also alternated between 5th and 6th gear from time to time to vary the RPMs a bit (varying speeds as well obviously), even 4th at times so long as the RPMs did not exceed 4K. Don't know if this was a useful or proper approach, but it seemed like a good idea at the time

yup, I did the 5th and 6th bit between 60 and 80. it went ok I guess. be gentle on the brakes, if possible go out to a dead road and drive along at 35mph, and stop firmly but not too hard, start again to 35mph and drive for 30sec, stop again. repeat this about 10 times. itll set your brakes up pretty good. tho still you dont want to stop abruptly.
