Default Coolant change....dealer or local?

want to have my coolant change before the summer/track season. Can I just go to my local oil change place? Or should I go to the dealer? I had it done by the local place they just hooks up two hoses. one sucks out the old coolant the other refills? is dealer the same thing?

thanks!!

Doing that should be fine. The dealer doesnt do anything different. (I work at a dealer).

Just make certain that you get all of the air of the cooling system ...

Just make sure you put the right coolant because i was reading the manuel for my dads oldmobile and it said that if the wrong type of coolant goes in there and something happens related to coolant, that it is no longer covered under warranty.

I would also change the mix for the track. I road race my Z and for the track I go to 70/30 water to coolant. It will run cooler.I use only distilled water and also add water-wetter. Our winters in NJ are not as guite as cold as yours, but I go back to 50/50 for winter.

http://www.imcool.com/articles/antif...dradsgobad.htm

This is an article explaining the use of coolant the who's and why's.
Anything less than a 50/50 mix of quality coolant and distilled or deionized water is not recomended. Less than that can cause rapid corrosion and failure of good parts.

Now I'm not saying that this would happen to you, but the 50/50 mixture is recommended. If you do want to run less coolant, then additives need to be put in the system to protect the aluminum from excessive corrosion. Remember this engine and all the other components aside from the hoses are all aluminum so I wouldn't want to cause myself any problems that can be prevented with a little knowledge.

There are other articles that explain the different types of coolant that can be purchased, and you definatly don't want to mix two types of coolant technologies. So use this infomation to make an informed decision as to what is best for you and your car.

Hope this helps.
Tony
