Default My insurance is the same as my Spec V was!!

Well... I just traded in my 04 Nissan Sentra Spec V for my 03 Touring 6MT 350z. I thought insurance was going to be outrageous. Much to my suprise... my insurance didnt change a bit. I only have to pay 105 a month for full coverage. Granted I am on my familys insurance plan and it's actually my grandmother that's rated under this car ... but I still figured it would have gone up some. Oh well, I'm not going to argue . Just thought I'd share...

Yeah, my prior car was an Audi A4 wagon. My insurance on my Z is the same as it was on my Audi. I was seriously expecting it to go up, so that was a pleasant surprise.

Would u think the rate would go up from a base RSX? I'm really considering the Z and the insurance is one of my biggest concerns.

Going from an '01 Prelude to an '05 Track Z, my insurance is only going up $30/mo I think.

Its a possibility since its a base, but also RSX's tend to be higher because of the general age brackets that purchase them. IMO, it could go either way, but it MIGHT go down.

Last year I went from a 98 Found On Roadside Dead Explorer 4x4 to the Z and my insurance dropped almost $600 a year. Plus I had just turned 25 . Oh but that damned ticket screwed me up....haha

I went from a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT to a 2005 350Z 6MT Base Model and my insurance WENT DOWN $10!!! Don't ask me how, it just did and I didn't want to ask my insurance company how that happened.

dainbramage91, not to change the subject but what kind of deal did you get trading in your spec-v? Im about to do the exact same thing, I own an 04' Spec-V and im trading it in for a 350z in June.

I did check my insurance to see what the difference between my Spec-V and a Z would be and its only 20$ more every 6 months for me.

Sports cars costing more for insurance is pretty much an old wives tale... same as the old "red cars cost more to insure" BS.

When I was 16 picking out the car I wanted my parents to buy me I wanted a firebird but my mother said no way b/c it was a sports car and they cost to much to insure. I was working at the time and asked her to check the rates of a maxima (what she wanted me to get) vs a firebird (what i wanted at the time) and told her I would pay the difference to drive a car I want. She said she would check to shut me up but it was a waste of time b/c everyone knows a red sports car is going to cost more in insurance than a 4 door maxima. She checked the prices and when I asked her about it she replied "your not getting a sports car" me "Why was it too much I will pay the difference" her "your not getting a sports car"...

I think I should ask her about it now; I am willing to bet the firebird was about the same or maybe even cheaper. Funny thing is when I told her I was buying a Z she really didn't want me to get it b/c it was a sports car.

OT: I would have killed myself if I would have gotten a v8 firebird back then... I def wasn't mature enough for a car that fast.

you can go to progressive.com and leave the SSN# blank. They will give you bad rates (b/c they don't know your credit score) but you can use them to compare between two makes of cars. I would guess the rates go down b/c I think the RSX's are stolen more than the Z. ( yea yea yea I know there are more to steal but thats the kind of stupid things insurance companies use to pick rates... )

I bought an '88 Firebird Formula years ago when I turned 18. I am lucky to be alive.

Nice to know there's a chance my insurance won't go up.

Currently, my dad drives a 98' Civic 4dr and I have a '02 RSX auto and our half year premium comes to 800 (1600/yr).

The insurance on my Z is less than it was on my old 00 Acura Integra.

You can also check http://www.esurance.com to get an online quote. Out of all the places I checked with they gave me the best rates by far. That's who I actually ended up going with in the end.

As far as the 25-year-old discount rule, I believe it actually works a bit differently. I've had different insurance reps from different companies all tell me you actually get your discount when you've been licensed for 9 years. Most people get their licenses at 16, so that works out to 25 for the discount for the majority of people. I didn't get my license until I was 22, however, so I have to wait until I'm 31 before I get the discount. I was quite displeased when I turned 25 and no price drop happened.
