Guys,

I just got my 350Z touring. 2003. Silver. It really is mint from the outside. 14,000 miles. Paid $22000 Cash! Out the door.

The one major issue is that the past owner smoked like a chimney. I mean this guy must have smoked 4 cigs at a time with the windows up while letting another 2 or 3 just burn in the ashtray.

I'm really looking for you guys to best assist me getting rid of the smoke smell myself with some store bought products you'd recommend. If this is something I have to bring to a professional to have done (headliner cleaning, Ionic cleaning, etc.), please let me know as I'd rather not waste my time with products that only mask the stench or work temporarily.

Let me know guys, I'm more than willing to follow any good advice.

there's some sorta spray stuff that gets rid of most any smell - it's used usually for clothes - starts with an "F" I think

can't remember the name, but i'd try that

I was sitting by a campfire for 2-3 hours and sprayed that stuff on my clothes and couldn't smell the smoke anymore

Before you treat it, be sure and vacuum every surface in the interior twice. You'll pick up the small particles that contribute to the smell.

Time is the only thing that will really help. Cleaning and febreeze will do a lot of good but 6-8 weeks of non smoking should help. My mom smokes like a chimney in our truck and I drive it when she leaves the states. It always takes a while before it doesn't smell like hell but it eventually gets better. Congrats on the new Z.

I believe activated charcoal is a good odor absorber.

word. i'd also try cleaning all the fabrics , and then detail the inside... leave the windows open as much as you can (at least we're headed into summer and not winter)... and like someone else mentioned - time is going to be your best friend - at least it smells worse now than it ever will again, its only going to get better from here!

congrats on the car......

but in only 14000 miles, it should be completely beat into the fabric and vents.

vacuum like crazy, use fabric cleaner on all the carpet and seats, (or leather polish and cleaner if you have leather) don't forget the headliner
drive witht he windows down. and if that still doesn't work, you might have to clean the a/c vents but fabreeze, some smelly trees, and time will help ya out

put baking powder in a cup and leave it in the car for a few days..it should absorb some of the smell from it..

better yet, take a lemon, gut it out and pu the baking powder in there and leave in your car (maybe the cupholder) and it does wonders...

Have the seats and everything else shampooed and steam cleaned. Leave the windows down for about 2 weeks. That should do the trick.

Forget doing it yourself, you will only temporaily cover or mask the smell. Take it to a dealership or car shop which performs a procedure called "Fogging" it is used to remove smells from the interior of a car or any inclosed space.

best thing to do would lysol the hell out of your interior. THE HELL OUT OF IT!!

Try wiping down every surface. Smoking in the car will leave resedue all over the place and its a pain to clean. Still trying to get the smell out of my beater car from when I used to smoke.

The best place to start is to work in baking soda into the carpeting........a lot of it.......just pour it on and work it in very well..........let it sit overnight.........then vacuum it out. That should get rid of most of the smell. If need be, repeat the process. The hard part is the headliner. For that, I mainly just let the car air out with the windows and hatch open in my garage for a few days. As far as the overall odor of the car; after the other processes have been done, set your a/c on recirculate and spray any arm&hammer aerosole based air freshener into your driver's side, and passenger side floorboard areas. This should recirculate through the car. Just repeat this a few times with the windows and doors shut for a half hour or so and your vents should be good to go. Drive with the windows down after that for a few days and you're almost there..............................ah, i almost forgot...............after all of this is done, if you still need a little help try cleaning your engine bay with simple green; sounds funny, but the smell of the cleaner will waft into your car through the outside vents. This, surprisingly does a decent "follow up" job as well.

Smoke gets into the vents, especially if you smoke with the windows up and ac/heater on. Spray some deodorizer (citrus based) into the intake vent (in front of the window) then run the ac. Your whole car will smell like whatever you spray for awhile, better than smoke.
