I skip gears a lot too. I only user 5th when I am in town going 35 or so. I use 6th almost all the time I am going 35+ and won't have to slow down. The Z has plenty of torque to be in 6th when you are cruising, and if you need more power you can just drop down a few gears.

 

The beauty of the torque is that you can comfortably pass people on two lane roads by just staying in 6th. Of course it is not going to be head snapping acceleration, but is still better than many cars out there.
