Default Service Engine Soon = ECU Reprogram

I pulled into work yesterday after lunch and the "Service Engine Soon" indicator light came on.

I took it into the dealer this morning, who said there is a Service Bulletin out on it. He did not get into specifics but he said that the ECU had to be reprogrammed (takes about 2 hours).

I just picked up the car a few minutes ago and all is well (so far). Just wanted to share this bit of info.

How long have you had the car, and how many miles?

Default Mine came on

at around 800 miles and disappeared around 1200. The warning light still works when the engine is being started so it's not burned out. All seems OK.

Hey, mine came on at about 1500. I took it to maroone and they said that they didn't have an adaptor to hook up the car to their computer, so the tech reset the light and it hasn't come back on yet.

Any info on the reprogram and if it affects performance if it's not reprogramed??

I took it to Maroone Nissan of Fort Lauderdale and they had the equipment to do it. I have heard of the ECU having a "safe mode" of operation whereby it runs less aggressively. I would have it checked out either way at another Nissan dealership if the one you went to didn't have the proper tools. I would be curious to know which Maroone dealer you went to however...

Could be an O2 sensor not being read properly which would probably spit out some error code and give you the light. My Z32 did that when it had a leaky injector.... then Nissan replaced it with another leaky injector... took 2 months and 4 visits for them to finally check that *new* injector and find out I was telling them the truth.. grrr.
