Default Insurance coverage, Is this good?

I have right now Allstate for my car insurance but I was looking at Geico to see what price they would offer and I got a quote for the coverage below for my two vehicles at $1128 for six months.

Type of Coverage_________________350Z Coverage__________________1998 Buick Regal LS

Bodily Injury Liability(BI)____________$20,000 / $40,000_______________$20,000 / $40,000
Property Damage Liability(PD)________$15,000_______________________$15,000
Personal Injury Protection(PI)________$2,500 limit / no deductible_______$2,500 limit / no deductible
Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury_______$20,000 / $40,000______________$20,000 / $40,000
Uninsured Motorist Property Damage___$15,000______________________$15,000
Comprehensive(COMP)_______________$500 deductible________________NO
Collision(COLL)______________________$500 deductible_______________NO
Emergency Road Service(ERS)_________NO___________________________NO
Rental Reimbursement(RR)____________NO___________________________NO
Mechanical Breakdown Insurance_______NO___________________________NO

What you guys think, should I switch to Geico cause my Allstate cost is $1381 for six months and I think that Allstate coverage is not as comprehensive as Geico. I think Allstate coverage is only "Bodily Injury", "Property Damage", "Collision", "Comprehensive".

It depends if you own your own home or not. If so I would bump yuor BI limits up. I would definitely bump you PD limits up from $15,000. I work as a claims adjuster and run across far too many claims where someone hits a new vehicle or multiple vehicles and doesn't have enough coverage. The other insurance company then comes after you for the difference. I would also think of picking up rental if you don't have another vehicle to drive. It is a very inexpensive coverage (couple dollars more a month) and would definitely come in handy if you ever do have to file a claim. One last thing, if you carry collision coverage, there is no reason to carry UMPD. You would basically have 2 coverages that would do the same thing. If you were ever hit by an uninsured motorist, your collision coverage would cover damages to your car. Hope this helps. If you have any further questions, send me a PM.

NorCal350,

Thanks for reply to my post. I'm 33 years old single guy. I do have a minor accident claim with my current insurance and also had a traffic ticket in my driving record. I told geico that I will put only 6k miles a year on my 350Z because I have a second vehicle that is my main medium of transportation.

jovasi,

Thanks for your replie also. I send you a PM.

That seems way high to me. I am 39 though. I'm paying $444 a year for full coverage and a $500 deductible. I haven't been in an accident since 1997, but do have one speeding ticket within the past year:

2003 Nissan 350Z
Vehicle Subtotal: $222.16
Bodily Injury
Limit 100,000/300,000 per person/per accident $42.50
Property Damage
Limit 50,000 per accident $39.98
Uninsured Motorists
Selection: Coverage Selected $18.50
Uninsured Motorists Bodily Injury
Limit 100,000/300,000 per person/per accident $0.00
Uninsured Motorists Property Damage
Limit 50,000 per accident $0.00
Deductible 200 per accident
Other Than Collision
Deductible 500 per occurrence $32.74
Collision
Deductible 500 per occurrence $82.63
Transportation Expenses
Limit 600 maximum $5.81
Vehicle Subtotal $222.16

I wouldn't think of driving with such low bodily injury rates. Your exposure is so high that if you have any significant accident, you will probably force yourself into bankruptcy.

I had a friend fall out of my car (s10 blazer) while reaching for the door handle. Her medical bills came to almost 100k$.

If you hit someone, your not going to be able to pay for my car or be able to fix my injuries. That is why I carry underinsured motorist protection.

Insurance is a must not a nicety in this litigous society!

I hope that you will reconsider your coverages.

I am not associated with the insurance industry in any way

I have USAA and they are exceptional. If I had to guess I'd say it should probably be around the $200-300 area considering you're younger but are getting less coverage than me. When you got the quote did you ask for a multi-car discount (if you would cover more than one car) or discuss getting your homeowner's policy through them? Usually you pay even less this way. Additionally you might want to make sure the insurer knows what additional safety and security features you car has on it. Some will ask but others will charge you a higher rate unless you specifically tell them you have a car alarm, side impact airbags, DRL etc. If you can try USAA or Progressive. With USAA you'll need to be military or related to a military member.
