Exclamation Sponsorship!

My name is Russell Bolingbroke, I live in the Sarasota/Tampa Bay region. I own a 2004 base 350z. At the moment it is stock. But I have big dreams for my z, and would like to invest in a greddy twin turbo, and make my body look like a JGTC 350z. Unfortunatly for me I do not have 20,000-30,000 sitting in a bank for the mods that need to be done. SO! Im looking to find business's that want to sponcer me by basicaly buying advertisment space on my car. My father owns a 2003, hummer h1 and we have some very simple decals on it. The amount of business we have gotten alone from the hummer is very impressive. A car that looks this mean would get 3 times the looks! If anyone knows a way to go about this, or knows a company looking to sponsor a car please help me! thanks!

Russell

what they are trying to say is that there is almost 0% chance of that happening... way too many modded Z's out there already. Dump 10k into it first.

even dumping 10k into the car will not really garner sponsors. there was a thread asking who is in the $5k club and the majority of them were double of that. example:

rims & tires = $3500.00
bodykit = $2000.00
basic sounds = $3000.00
Exhaust = $1000.00
Intake = $250.00
Suspension $2000.00

theres your $10K and you are among a 100 other Z including myself. no sponsor all money out of my own pocket. my car going for a new exterior setup once done retail value of parts should be in the $20k range

good luck on getting a sponsor (i'm being sincere not sarcastic). here in cali it's just hard. Lots of car modified and established already. best advised i can give take you time save up you money and buy the mods yourself. you'll need to establish yourself in the show/race circuit before any company will make that type of investment. a professional proposal and goals on the car would help to. once again GL on your car.

Good luck to you, but doubt you'll ever find what you're looking for.

Like nismo33 said above, you are just another fish in the pond. I personally am at about $20K into my car - Don't tell my wife! $10K basically gets you new wheels and tires, a new stereo, a bodykit and exhaust. And maybe not even that.

Maybe I can find a sponsor here MN where there aren't a lot of Z's on the road

I would imagine each situation in unique, and each market will have its own opportunities, so you have to ask youself "why would a business give you $5K, $10K or $20K to build your car and have their name on it?" Most of the larger corporations probably have racing teams and are a non starter for a guy with a Z. Maybe there are local performance shops that would be willing to do something smaller, maybe a few hundred bucks. You do need a plan as to what you plan to do with the car, a list of show, racetracks, events and such you have gone or plan on going, and market yourself. Difficult but not impossible. Good luck.

I say leave the guy alone. as amuzing as i find his post i can relate when i first started modding cars. damnn hard getting things done when i was a student. hell even now i would love to get a sponsor, probably wont. i am just fortunate to have friends out there that can hook up decent prices. russel my advice to you is to save money and wait for lifetime deal to come up. believe wait till christmas and there will be people here that will need money. When that happens yo will see crackhead prices on parts.

Unless you're established in the race / show circuit, you're deemed a nuisance to the guy that makes the sponsorship arrangements. If you want to land a sponsorship, you have to stand out from the crowd and build a relationship with the decision makers. Most of everyone I know that is sponsored, is "so & so's" good friend that got him hooked up with the decision makers and he forwarded a detailed, professional proposal that highlighted his accomplishments, plans, and events attended.

Another form of sponsorship involves your local tuning shop. Present a detailed plan to the owner (once you build a solid relationship) and he may be able to give you cost on parts or introduce you to the manufacturer's sales rep that covers the area. As in all business decisions, what can you do for them (that someone else can't do) ? And how many dollars does that translate to?

you gotta first make your Z really stand out above and beyond 95% of Z's on the road, maybe even more than 95%

that basically means spending or laboring some big cash out of your own pocket first.

If you're an insanely good pro or semi-pro driver then that might help you, but otherwise think of what compelling reason a company would want to give up some of their money/parts to put on your car. Then it's all about making yourself known. Getting into every possible event etc. It can almost become a full time job. Actually it is a lot of people's full time job.

Without sounding jerky, what is it about you and your car that will make a company say "hmm that guy could potentially get us some business if we sponsored him because he already stands out so much and is somewhat famous in the Z community to some degree"

Personally, I wouldn't even consider it until you get about 40k (or equal labor/time spent doing things yourself) or more invested into your car or know some higher ups in the industry.
