I thought I would set it at 4800 (peak torque), but I found I shift at 5000 naturaly. What I DID have trouble with was bouncing off the rev-limiter, so I set it at 6200, wich besides being the peak hp, reminds me Im very close to redline.

At 3800 right now for break-in, but i'll push it back to 5200 after 1200 miles passes.

For break-in, mine is set at 4000. After that, I'd probably set it around the redline somewhere. Now that I'm getting to know my car better and better, I find that I pay less attention to the shift light since I have a better feel for when I'm approaching certain revs.

3800 rpm for the breaking in period (at 4000 before but I find that I sometimes would go over so I want to warned a little bit sooner). My dealer told me that there is no breaking in required but I'll stick with the manual instructions.

My dealer had it set at 3000, but I moved it to 3500 for the break-in period. After 1200 miles, I have no idea what I'll set it to.

6600 RPM. The light comes on 500 RPM before the setting, so you have some warning when to shift. The rev-limiter is way too agressive and is a real pain in the *** when it kicks in, so it is to be avoided if at all possible. But I tend not to notice the light and still hit it sometimes; I wish you could set it to beep too!

Currently 3500. Still breaking it in.
Question for people here, to get best accelleration, do you shift at peak torque and to get top speed, you shift at peak hp?

4600 for the break-in period, if the light starts to flash (500 rpm before the solid shift light) it means ive revved to high. i see that light way too often! :P

6600.

Screw the break-in. I shift by feel and sound and don't see the light very often.

No, peak power gets you max acceleration. If you shift at peak torque of 4800, you are making only around 2/3 of peak hp (from my memory of a 350Z dyno curve) so the car will be slow. Max power is just under redline (I don't remember the exact number but I think it's around 6400) and even 6200 is very close to peak power. But if you shift at 4800, you might as well have a car with a lot less power, because that's what it will feel like. There's nothing magic about peak torque; torque is just hp / RPM * 5252.

Power is what makes you go fast, regardless of what RPM it happens at: if you had a big truck engine making 287 hp @ 2,000 RPM or a high-strung motorcycle engine making 287 hp @ 14,000 RPM, the acceleration would be the same, all else being equal (vehicle weight, gearing, traction, etc.)

So I don't understand the fixation with shifting at peak torque -- this is not the first time I have seen this question.
