After a DUI conviction if you do not change insurance companies or have a claim will they find out? Has anyone been down this awfull road? An insurance agent friend of mine and my attorney informed me of what I stated above. I hope it's true. Its my first time and I'm 38 . Thanx in advance for your help and comments.

My old roommate received one and the insurance co eventually found out about 4 months down the road. Apparently, most convictions have a nice lil' paper trail that leads from the courthouse to your state capital. The insurance companies then feed off that info and match it up with their policyholders. His insurance went up by about 30-40% . . . time to up your deductible amount.

i think if your convicted of a DUI and the severity (spelling) of the DUI is great than you are going to have bigger problems than insurance premiums, at least here in AZ DUI's are taken very seriosly and its hard to really do anything easily like finding a job and the right to own a firearm, definitly a big one for me, what would i do without my guns......

I received a DUI in 2/2004 and my insurance rates have not changed at all. The cops made a lot of mistakes and agreed to knock the charge down to the lowest DUI charge, so I kept my license. Anyway, in my safe driving class there was an insurance agent who got a DUI as well. Everyone was asking him the same question. He said that if they have not found out yet, do not make any policy changes and you should be fine. I don't know how long you have to wait though. Since then I've taken a car off my policy, switched from full tort to limited and added the Z. No problems yet. Knock on wood.

they will find out, its just a matter of time. DUI stays on your driving record for 3 to 5 years depending on the state, and if didnt learn your lesson and get caught again you better get used to walking. I got a dui when i was in school and my rates are still evelated. I think my rate went up about 500 a year. But i did learn my lesson and i will never drink and drive again.

So in summary....
A.) Nothing will happen if you keep quiet
B.) Your rates will go up eventually
C.) You will lose your job, your license and your guns.
D.) You will save money because shoes are cheaper than tires.
You gotta love the forums...
Why don't you call your insurance company anonymously and ask them what the deal is. If you don't give your name, you'll be fine. It's obviously the only real way to find out the truth.

remember to call from a pay phone... lol.
yea, but your insurance company is going to be your best resource - most everything else is speculation, because everyone's situation is going to be a little different.

Yeah that sounds right.
DUI's are expensive and a huge inconvenience. But that's what they're supposed to be. I haven't made the same mistake since I got mine. More people get them then you probably think. All kinds of people. I suggest to leave your insurance alone and hope for the best. In PA if it's your first offense and your BAL was not outrageous you can keep your license and get the offense expunged from your record after you complete all the requirements. But if you get busted a 2nd time, you're screwed.

I was unfortunate enough to get a DWI in 7/2001 when I was only 20 with a BAC of .22. I lost my licence for a while, and my insurance company cancelled my policy within a month. When I was able to drive again my insurance rate increased by $1800 per year. I was driving my 2000 Lightning at the time. The DWI was on my insurance record until 7/2004, when it decreased to a reasonable level once again.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but my question is somewhat related to topic.
What about if you were given a ticket (minor moving violation) or you had a claim with insurance before, do you still tell them when you purchase a policy or do you just stay silent until they find out?
Thanks in advance
