For daily, I shift at:

1st gear-> 2nd: 3000
2nd -> 3rd: 3000
3rd -> 4th: 2800

On cold starts, I shift at lower RPMs.

You can drive and shift at lower RPMs and still feel the Z is drivable. I tried the book recommended speeds and I felt that it was a penny pinchers way of saving gas and a first hand experience how fast a Yugo moves.

1st - 2nd = 4000
2nd - 3rd = 3500
3rd - 4th = 3250
4th - 5th = 3000
5th - 6th = 3000

all to keep the tilton >2500rpm in the new gear to avoid cement mixer noise

You guys should post how much you open your throttle during acceleration. I usually shift around 3000-4000 but in the first few gears I always use about 50%(I am starting to squat pretty bad in the rear already)

Depends how fast you want to really accelerate balanced with gas usage (and maybe engine wear, but that can be debatable).

Doesn't that put much more stress to the clutch if you shift too early?

I usually shift around 3000. But if I feel a little more spirited, probably up to 4000. If I'm feeling a rush, then I'll shift the first two times around 5500, but that doesn't happen often.

i did that till 1200 miles... since then... 3k for every shift...
andd once in a week i'll let er rip... 5 to 6k shifts... if u keep driving like grandma, your car will become a buick... its cause the ecu keeps track of the way u drive and adjusts accordingly...

hmm... i havent had a new car in a while. all my car's have been obd1.. so if i drive slow then my ecu will slow my car down or just generally not make it very happy?

So i guess i should be shifting at around 3k everyday huh..
on a side note...
i do get agressive when necessary and i have taken her to redline a few times.

I always shift at 2k exactly. I just bought her a month ago and have about 1,500 miles now. Then I heard during the break in period its good to vary shifting and speed levels. I'm now shifting at 3k and it seems like she picks up a lil faster, so the ECU thing may be true.

On the Z I think the clutch pedal goes so far down that you really cannot got to the floor and shift quickly. Once you know the take off point, shifting at part way down saves a _lot_ of time from 1 to 2 so I can shift between 2-3K and stay up with traffic. 3,500 if I feel like moving out a bit more.
