The last time I tried turning the nozzle upside down gas went everywhere and made a huge mess.... I guess I didn't wait long enough to start the pump again.... but I wouldn't do it again.

I had the hard to fill problem worse than anyone else I've talked to on these boards... even the TSB says it's only supposed to be sporadic.. but it happened to me every time I got gas... it didn't matter which station I went to or what I did... my suggestion is to simply take the car back to nissan and let them fix the faulty shutter valve... it's free... takes about an hour... is fairly painless... and the problem is gone.

I just realized, I had this problem when my Z was new, but during the past year I haven't had the problem. There was that recall repair regarding the fuel line, I wonder if that changed anything ...

To my knowledge the fuel filler recall does not involve replacing the shutter valve.

They are different problems with different solutions.

Maybe they did both at the same time? Maybe I am wrong. Maybe it is just coincidence.

All I know is I had the problem, had the shutter valve replaced, and the problem went away.

Pretty simple if you ask me.

mine went away before the recall was done, and I stick to the well known gas stations like Exxon and Sunoco

See this link... http://www.350zmotoring.com/forums/a...hp/t-6181.html

This fuel tank problem has been around for a long time. This was the last problem I had with my Roadster before I decided to get rid of it. I was on a long road trip and couldn't fill it up more than half way.

Whats up fellas....I've had this trouble filling up problem for about 5 months now....and still has not gone away. I just came from the dealer and they told me they have a bulletin regarding this...about "Valve and O ring" problem....its not a recall, however it is covered under warranty.

YAY! so now i just have to wait for the part to come in, they'll replace my bad one and i can finally fill up again!....I've been filling up to 10 gallons for 5 months...dont know if i'll get used to going back to 16 gallons...haha

I didn't read all this, so I don't know if you got it fixed or not. My daily used to do that, except it was a lot worse. I could put a few dollars in and would have to wait for it to go downt the filler neck. I took my air hose and blew down the filler neck with it. The I took a mallet and lightly tapped all down the filler neck. Problem solved.

Ahh. Damned old threads.

NOOBS It's the shutter valve. This has nothing to do with the fuel filler recall. This is a separate prob. and one that Nissan is aware of. There is a SEARCH button, but it sucks. From now on make nissanhelp.com a favorite. Thanks, that is all.

I didn't read through the whole list of posts (just the first page), but there is a TSB for this issue. Your dealer should have a copy of it as well as a fix detailed on the TSB.

Hi guys. Yes, I did use the search button. That is how I found this. So today I began experiencing this on my 07. However, it's only happening at Shell. I tried 3 different pumps at shell and once I get past 5 gallons it shuts off and then I can only put like .001 in at a time. I then went to Chevron and Mobil to test the problem and gas worked fine there. It sucks too, because the Shell is about .15 cheaper than everywhere else. Do you guys think I should take it to Nissan?? Thanks

Take it to the dealer...they are aware of this issue...I took mine in and i think it was a fuel valve or something..but they fixed it...its under warranty, save yourself the headache of finding a certain gas station and filling it up upside down...an excuse to take a day off of work and get this done...this Z is your baby...take care of it

Dam Finally I see an answer to my dam problem. LOL, and all I did was search....

I have a similar problem. Just got an 04 Touring model 2 weeks ago. I thought I just had a small gas tank. I can fill up to 12 Gallons, and thats it. I was like well maybe because its a small sports car didnt think anything of it. Started reading these posts and tried to force a fill up past 12 gallons. Well I got to 14 Gallons and it started to spill out. I only got 14 Gallons of gas to go in, and yes the tank was dead empty drove it until I saw the gas light.

I was going to contact the dealer regarding this, but was unsure if it held more gas then 14 Gallons. I'm filling up every other day and I was told by a few people that this car is actually pretty good on gas.
