Question RX-7 STOCK TWIN TURBO vs 350Z STOCK

Ok....The day started out with my cousin coming over to my house and we started talking about racing and my cousin said I bet you that my RX-7 will kill your 350Z I was all ready to go and then i sat in the car and realized that I am still in my breakin period. I got out of the car and told him I cant so he was like what you scared. I was like no my car is not ready to race yet. So we have this big delimma on who would win. Some input would help me out. Should I worry about losing or will it be a win win situation. HELP me out my reputation in the FAMILY relies on this. Thanks.

If driving skills being equal, I think you would lose.
That's the lastest RX-7 right?

i'm pretty sure he'd win
and he'd definatly win if the course had turns

the rx7 is an increadibly beatiful machine. with that said i'd take the 350z which i should get mine in about 2 1/2 months

ask him if hes replaced his turbos or motor or blown an apex seal yet

I own a 350z performance and a Mazda 1993 Mazda RX-7TT. I use the RX-7 as my daily driver. Being familar with both cars I would have to say the RX-7 would be the faster car. The twin turbo's spoul up fast and the car has throw you back in the seat acceleration while 350Z has a more linear acceleration not as noticeable as the RX-7. They are both beautiful cars and you should be happy with either one.

RX-7 is pretty fun to drive.... but it's too cramped.

My friend's RX-7 is already finished with repairs, and his baby is finally going home.

To be honest... i miss the sound of his car. It's the only rotory powered car I've ever seen.

Doesn't the RX7 use sequential turbos, and not twin turbos? I.e., a small turbo for the low end and a larger turbo for the top end. Smaller turbos spool up quicker than larger turbos, but are short winded. Larger turbos require more exhaust gases to spool up (more turbo lag), but give better top end performance. In the sequential turbo configuration, the smaller turbo spools up first; the larger turbo joins in as the revs build for greater top end breathing. Both the RX7 and Supra Turbo have sequential turbo configurations.

I believe it's Nissan 300ZX that uses the twin turbo configuration. That is, an equally sized turbo for each bank of 3 cylinders. The V6 has two banks of 3 cylinders.

RX7 ST (Sequential Turbo)
SUPRA ST
300ZX TT (Twin Turbo)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Ive owned both, and driven the rx-7 to tracks and drags. The rx-7 will beat it 0-60 and probably to 75. Z definately has more top end. ive taken the rx-7 to 140mph, but the z pulls like abig block with tall gears above 75mph.
the breaking is slightly better in rx-7. the handling better.

z with a bit of more money in it, will match and beat the r

Sequential and parrallel setups are both TT setups, b/c they both use two (hence, twin) turbos, they are just different types of TT configurations. Also, you are correct about which cars have which setups.

Wow you talk fast!!!

Well, I've never owned or driven a RX-7 but have sat in one while someone drove. It plastered me to the back of the seat. With that said... plus the available stats, I'd say the "7" is faster than our Z. Just wait until Greddy or Nismo comes out with a turbo.

3rd gen RX-7(FD-3S) has 255HP and weights 2694lbs, 1.3 rotary engine with sequential twin-turbo operation system with the first turbo spools just after 2,000rpm(which means it barly suffers from turbo lag)and the 2nd starts after 5,000rpm...0-60mph at low low 5's, 1/4 mile at high 13's. I'm sure the Z can keep up with no biggy, but to pass it....its gonna be hard.

NO NO NO..dont do it. Race it for fun on this, because its a very tough call. Who knows, he might miss a shift. But do you want to take that chance?

With a 10-year-old RX-7 and a brand new 350Z, it would come down to driver ability (if both are stock).

A newer RX-7 would absolutely dust the 350Z, the '99-02 RX-7s run the 1/4 in the high 12s, so you might wanna avoid racing one if you live in Japan, UK, or Australia.

Also, keep in mind that there are very few stock RX-7s on the road nowadays, especially the ones that like to race...

my brother in law and I race our respective 93 rx7 and 350z all the time. I think that they are very close and too close to call. his is stock other than the easier breathing racing beat intake and has 38k miles. mine is properly broken in and totally stock. we have driven together in a straight line, and following one another in the mountains. a few months ago we drove the "tail of the dragon" together. My Z lost in the mountains, only because of the crappy re040s. my tires caused me to constantly drift(vcs/tcs off) and his, wrapped in nitto 555s stuck. He had way more body roll, but my tires would not grip. at speed on country roads, we are able to keep up with each other. I think the difference comes down to driver. obviously it is easier to mod the rx7 now, but I am very pleased with how my z has stacked up against the rx7. personally, i would rather have my z any day. I like the timeless styling of the rx7.
