I had a grind going from 2nd to 3rd. I thought I was the problem at first but the gears just never seemed to line up there. I took it to the dealer and they installed a new tranny, clutch, and clutch linkage all under warranty.

anyways... how bad is this for the car? hahah... this happening ONCE to my car seems so bad to me, i think its just cuz grinding sounds so nasty.
Ya, mines not a tranny prob, just missin' gears when I get in a hurry. Not enough clutch, etc. Only happened a few times. maybe once every 3 months.

Not too bad, considering it's just the teeth banging together instead of meshing. It isnt great, but on a car thats able to hold near 500CHP on stock gears, I'd say your safe enough.

i grinded the gears twice takeing my bro to school. first time ive grinded in i dont know how long. first grind was a 4th to 5th. (my weakest shift.) and the second grind was very little almost not even a grind plus i forgot which gears it was. but any way i was driving faster than i could...made a record time for intraffic drive. and shorted a 15min drive down to 7mins.

edit: have done a very high five minute one once in absolut no traffic. but i dont plan on driving like that again.

Two and a half years of ownership with 35k miles, I've only grinded three times. Me being lazy, not the car's fault.

I grind gears occasionally, but that's usually cause sometimes I let the clutch a little too soon, and haven't gotten completely into gear yet.

grinding a gear occasionally is not going to have much of anything to do with your tranny failing... the dog teeth are pretty durable... it's the synchros that suck(which is what can cause the grind in the first place)... it sounds a lot worse than it really is
