In all seriously, I grind once or twice a month or so. It's just sloppy footwork for me.

Everyday... 2nd-5th. Transmission is about 1.5 years old. It was nice the first few months with the buttery smooth engagement. Now it's back to clunky. I'm wondering if it has something to do with my clutch because it drives me nuts.
When I got the Z in '02, I was learning how to drive a stick. The only time I grinded was when I didn't press the clutch pedal in. I'm not quite sure why I grind every day after 5 years versus when I first got it.
Before it grinds, I notice I can't get in gear as it clunks. So I have to go back to neutral, release and press clutch again, and then try go back in gear. It grinds. Try again, it's fine.

I have only done it a handful of times..usually its switching from the other vehicle (automatic) back into the Z (6 speed)....
The first few minutes in each car is filled with embarassing stupid crap... like hitting the floor on the automatic where the clutch should be just before I start the car or forgetting to hit the clutch in the Z and wondering why the ****ing thing won't start. haha

Wow, i brought this year old thread back from the grave to burn a guy that said he sometimes doesn't use his clutch at all to shift, not for you guys to actually talk about this topic! Cease and desist this instant!

Its really not that bad for ur car unless you're sitting there grinding the hell out of it. Its not the GEARS grinding at all, its the teeth on the crank end of the shift fork locking into the gear you're trying to get into. I'm not a transmission mechanic, but I'm pretty sure grinding will not enhance your chance of grinding again next time if you shift properly, because that would be a synchro issue. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/transmission.htm

My tranny has the 6th to 5th grind being an 03 and I need to goto a dealer ASAP but today I was down shifting 6->5 it grinded. and I'm almost positive it wasnt my fault, but it may have been seeing as it popped out of gear.
