Yeah, i know, i did it on my old Saab when the clutch failed. Still, unless your clutch is broke, its retarded not to use your clutch when shifting. Its way too easy to mess up. Even so, i know some people have got it down and can do it without grinding but read the guy's post. He says he grinds once a week, various gears. Come on, he definitely needs to use his clutch...

Im way too scared to even try shifting on my Z without using the clutch >.<.

Most people who grind 2nd from leaving 1st redlined just need to slow down their shift. I know it's tempting to speed shift but unless you're in a pissing contest that fraction of a second doesnt really matter. Revmatch your shifts like you should be, and you shouldnt be grinding any gears unless you have a synchro problem.

i dont think thats the problem, even if you are the worst at rev matching you should not hear the gears grind.

if you dont rev match well what will happen is you wont have a smoth shift meaning the car may jerk foward or slow down depending on the speed. rpms and gear

When I said revmatch I wasn't referring to when letting the clutch out to get a smooth engagement.... i was referring to the time it takes for the RPM to drop to have the revs match in the next gear. The first to second gear change takes the longest because it has the most RPM to drop.... and it's the one people tend to shift the fastest... If you're revmatching all of your shifts(both down and up) most likely you aren't slamming gears.... nor grinding them for that matter.

I probably average once per month, at least. 90% of the time it is 1st to 2nd.

Ever grind WOT from 1st to 2nd? It sounds HORRID and is very embarassing. Unfortunately I think I was having a bad driving day this past Saturday and did it twice. But before that, I can't even remember the last time I did. I had a perfect 1-2 today at WOT.

PS, a 2003 Z does not like 3rd to 6th shift.

Most people who grind 2nd from leaving 1st redlined just need to slow down their shift. I know it's tempting to speed shift but unless you're in a pissing contest that fraction of a second doesnt really matter.
+1 to that. I find myself doing that, hence my 1-2 mess ups this past weekend. You can still shift fast, but trying to go lightning speed from 1 to 2 is asking for it. I can shift quick from 2nd to 3rd, or higher. I have never missed any quick shifts besides 1-2.

I've done it a couple times overt the past 2 years or so...it's definitely embarassing...but not as much as over-blipping on downshift!

I thought the past tense of grind was ground, not grinded
