my friend has a 99 dodge neon r/t ...stock... he says hes putting in a turbo and that when its done he will b puttin out about 275 wheel hp and that hed race me and kill me and that id b lookin at his *** when he kicked mine and i laughed in his face and told him to shut the **** up.... even if he got the turbo to work he wouldn't b able to run enough boost to get it up to 275 in a 4 banger without substantial engine mods and rebuilds..some ppl... btw his first "mod" was hood pins

some ricer in my area spent $10k on his engine and a turbo setup on his neon a few months back. He wanted to race me. I was kind of nervous cuz it was my first call out with my Z and I didn't know how fast his car was. I pulled on him so hard I couldn't tell if he was going WOT or not

 

this isn't even an issue until he actually puts on the snail...

btw, what's his stock hp? just curious.

is the engine different in the SRT-4? cuz that lil thing can handle the boost and puts out some sick 0-100 times

 

+1. this is what i was trying to get to. their stock bottom ends are capable of handling a decent amount of boost... the srt-4 that is.

I was skeptical at first because 275 horse on that body might sound like competition. But once you said his first mod was "hood pins" If it was a beefed up tuned properly SRT4 then I would say it would definitely be competion. In anycase c'mon you said so yourself "hood pins"

 

A neon with a turbo kit is gonna put out about 220 hp to the wheels out of the box. Combine that with its light weight and you got a quick little car that will humble a lot of "faster" cars. These older neons can't handle much boost (10 psi max) unless they rebuild the engine. And they don't have the same engine as the srt4.

 

Depends...... Does it have a HEMI?

 

A stock Neon R/T came with 150hp. I know, because I had a '98. It was sloooooowww, but it actually handled pretty well.
