All new cars sold in the US after 1996 were required to have OBD-II. I think the new OBD-III will be required by 2007 (some 2006's already have it) and it will have built in GPS so Big Brother can track you down and arrest you for thought crimes like speeding, which it will also track at the request of rental car companies.

speaking of which, does anyone know of an easy way to disconnect the cable after you are finished? Its the strangest thing, but both on the Z and on a rental Maxima I once had, the connector actually latches onto the port (on all my other cars, it just slips on and off), forcing me to stick a screwdriver up there and, after much effort, bending my connector enough so that it will slip back off the port. (am i making sense to anyone??)
