Default What to do????

The clutch just went out in my car and my dad will not get it out of his mind that it would be saver if we just took it to someone that knew what they where doing. He says he knows what to do but I do not believe him....he also thinks that a 2002 manual guide for a 300zx will be the same and that worries me more.

So would it be save to do it here at my house or saver with a guy who knows what he is doing...not that my dad doesnt he just thinks he can.

Didn't you have a 05?
Any idea why it went out so soon?

Well when we took it to nissan they told us it was not under warranty and that it would cost $600 to just tear it down to see what was wrong with it. They took out the sensor and put a microscope down there and "told" us that the clutch was out due to all the dust. The cost would be around $1400 to get it fixed with a factory clutch, but we took it to another shop who could do all that for $700 but my dad is still freaking thinking he should do it himself.

My dad was a certified transmission rebuilder back in his day. Everytime I've spoken with him about the clutch rebuilding topic, he says it's a overall easy job for a manual car, but I'm sure it helps to have some backgroud in doing car repair work too.

It spicifily states in the warrenty that clutch is NOT covered. so you will never EVER get a dealership to pay to fix the clutch even if you drive it right off the lot and it blows. i use to have a 2003 Mitsubishi Evolution and i must have replaced 3 clutches in that thing. on the second one i decided to get a aftermarket stronger clutch to hold the power. anyone can replace a clutch as long as you have the service manual. most proformance shops dont have a whole lot of certified mechanics. so the guy putting in ur proformace clutch at a shop like that is just an average guy with no special qualifications. so if they can do im sure anyone else can as long as you have common sence. if you blew out that clutch already i would say you should put in a Nismo clutch because it will be stronger. and maybe a better flywheel. lots of times you can resurface your fly wheel. i dont recommend it, but you can.

I would have your dad do it. Get a copy of the service manual. Run a search here and someone can send you the link to download it.

I would upgrade to a better clutch since you are doing it anyway.
