Ok, I got the LM22 special order 245/45/18's. When they came in, the Firestone Auto Center said they would not put them on for risk of damaging the rim. Fine, so I take them to the dealer. I just got a call saying that they cant do it for risk of breaking the tire pressure sensors which would not be covered under warrenty.
So. Nissan Canada is saying that we will void our warrenty if we go with anything other then the stock tire sizes, but then everyone is scared to put the tires on. What the hell do I do? I've already wasted two days without a car and got nothing in return.
Total BS. So what happens if I run over a nail? The dealer will not plug it? What type of machine is needed to dismount and mount these wheels? And is there really a risk of damaging the pressure sensors?

When are you gonna start listening to you Z buddy in QC.

Call your local GOODYEAR dealers and find one who is equipped for the “Goodyear Run Flat” tires.

Those guys will be able to help you. BTW the bard of machine my Goodyear dealer uses in from a company called Coast. They tell me there are many other companies which make the appropriate equipment.

P.S. If I ever get up to Toronto you now owe me two dozen Krispy Kream doughnuts.

 

Hey Pooch. Everyone wants about $50 per tire to use the run flat machine. Now way man. Well if it is the only way to do it, then maybe, but thats $400 a year to go back and forth. Thats not cool. The dealer said I should get 18" steel wheels. So I told him yah right. You find a set of 18" steel wheels...there is no such thing AND I wouldnt want them if there was. I told him that Nissan Canada told me these are the only tires that are approved by them and so he should call them to see what they expect you to do. Anyway, they are taking it across the street from the dealer to a well known tire shop here that I approve of. (Tire Depot on Doncaster). I asked if he (Willowdale Nissan) will back the work for scratches and the sensors not working and they said yes. So. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Did you get new tires and new rims or are you taking your stock tires off the existing rims and replacing them with the new winter tires?

 

Just got tires. I dont know why I am having such a problem finding someone who can do this...enough cars have 18" stock or optional wheels now that this should not be a problem.

 

You would think the dealer should be able to do this for you. What will happen when we have to replace our stock tires due to normal wear?

 

The dealer should do it. The service manual provided detailed instructions on changing the tire without damaging the tire pressure monitor, using regular equipment. Call them and tell them to look it up.

 

Man is everyone remotely associated with the car business in Toronto a weasel ?

Put your Z on blocks 2 times a year and ship me your wheels. I’ll them have done by my guy without a scratch and ship them back to you for way less than $ 400.00

Seriously regarding steel wheels, I would be raising hell with Nissan if I was told some bull like that from a dealer.

BTW not to rub salt in the wound be Goodyear in Quebec did it without any surcharge or scratches in about twenty minutes.

They are done. Picked them up just a little while ago. The dealer sent it to Tire Depot on Doncaster. They did a good job. They look good, but I really have not been able to really clean them good for a really close examination since it is -15 out. From what I was able to see, if there is any damage it is very minor (small mark on clearcoat) and easy to wetsand or take off with a polishing compound. No gouges or anything.
