Redneck road-rage attack

As long as you're not implying that cowardace is the defining factor in the decision to "withdraw", that works for me
. Fear is a reaction, withdraw is a choice...Sounds good!
I'll try to respond to these in order. This should be interesting.
The cursing I would walk away from, but you've changed the story with the "throwing things and getting closer and closer" because you've indicated a direct threat of bodily harm and intent to overtake. At this point, the 4 S rule comes into effect...Shout, Shove, Show, Shoot. (thanks Machupo!)
Assuming we're talking about the scenario above, nothing changes. If we're talking about the road-rage incident that was the original topic of the thread, bye bye...My car is faster than your rusty pickup, Mr. Redneck.
The answer here should be the same as scenario #1 really, but the concern for others is definitely a factor (as it should be in #1). At that point, I guess I'd have to try my luck at HTHC and hope I don't lose. I'm a pretty big guy myself (6'4", 260 lbs), but I hope I'm never in that situation. My view on fighting is that if I'm going to hit you once, I'm going to hit you until you can't get up, otherwise what's the point?
Mr. Redneck enters my house and assaults me? Shoot first, don't even bother asking questions later, he doesn't deserve the courtesy.
So, how did I score?

I'm inclined to agree with you on the situations above, although its easy for me to talk without being in that situation. I have avoided violence in scenario 2, the woods. In WV you can Open Carry legally. I exersize this option whem im in the woods, as it is easier when wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Usually I carry my pistol, sometimes my AR depending on where im going and if im planning to target shoot a bit. I was out with the wife and another couple when we come upon two men collecting their pot crop. Things were a bit tense till they saw that I carrying and let us go about our business without incident.
Being a home owner we ar always faced with #4, I pray it never happens, last thing I want to do is kill someone.
The reason for the questions (especially the crowded park one)was to lead to this thought though;
In those questions you were faced with a potentially deadly situation. withdrawing on foot was a risky option and you had other people's well being in mind in the park.
You bring up the point that you can outrun the redneck. Does this not also put your loved ones in great danger, (possibly greater danger) and put the lives of others in danger too? Any time you mix public highways, adrenaline and high speed you are taking a risk not only for yourself, but for others in the car with you and elsewhere on the road. Not only that, but the redneck is also putting others in danger as well.
Is stopping a confontation before a high speed chase better taking chances?

There are few situations involving actual violence that are worth going to jail for. Self-defense where life or limb is threatened, definitely. Defense of those who can't defend themselves, sure. Some drunk dude stepping to you in a bar, no. Then you've got a few grey areas where physical force may/may not acceptable depending on your value system, like stopping someone when he's trying to bash your car/house window in. Most of the time, though, you're going to look back and think, "Man, that was a stupid thing to fight about." I find that this test keeps me from doing things that I might regret later.
A friend of mine is 6'4 and built. Drunk guys try to start stuff with him all the time. Unless someone hits him first, he usually just waves it on. He explained it to me like this: Nobody looks at 2 guys fighting in a club/bar or in the street and goes "Wow, those guys are cool." Most of the time, people say, "Look at those two drunk losers" or "Man, take it outside. I'm trying to get laid." Who wants to be seen as that drunk fighting guy who ruins everyone's time?

We are talking about defensive situations above, which I classify road rage as. I think that is the crux of the matter, I feel that road rage at speed is just as deadly as someone walking in to your home with a gun and a bad attitude, like someone said, they have a 3000# guided missle. I seem to feel that it is better to take the car out of the equation and look at it from the standpoint that it is a person comming after you. Also, Do you consider any un-provoked assult as life threatening? In my CCW class it was made clear that a person with bare hands can kill you and can cross your 30' circle of safety in under 5 seconds.

The Exception I think would be that In the process of drawing the criminal stops immediatly and puts his hands up.

I have drawn my gun on one occasion here in florida after I was attacked by a REDNECK in a road rage incident.
He quitely laid on the floor and awaited arrest by the local authorities. I made it clear his options were to be shot or arresrted.
My Glock also accompanies me in the cockpit where it does double duty as a terrorist killer.
Gotta love guns !!
