Default Redneck road-rage attack

I was driving on 520 last night about midnight (heading back to Orlando) after hanging out at Coco beach all day and this truck starts tailgaiting me and flashing his lights. I didn't want to call attention to myself so I just continue to drive slow and steady. This guy pulls up beside me and flips me off and when we get to stoplight my friend rolls down his window and the guy is like "you got a problem? I'll kick your ***" and something like "what my trucks not as fast as your Porche"(I have a Z). Anyway were talking a big hairy redneck with huge tatooed arms. So he trys to jump out of his truck but the light turns green and I go. He continues to follow flashing his brights right on my *** and then pulling beside me at the next light. I tell my buddy this is not a good situation cause I knew this f***er was going to cause me to do something that could get me arrested. Sure enough, the guy tries to jump out and rush my car at red light causing me to take off and run the light to avoid his attack. I didn't squeel my tires or anything but took off kind of fast and I get pulled over by a cop. I tell him about the road rage guy and he says he didn't see anyone. This may sound crazy but at the time it really felt like a setup and thats what I told my friend. I said were going to keep quiet and take our ticket and hopefully I won't have to walk the line. When he pulled me over he had asked if I'd been drinking that day and where I was coming from. He then asked me what I did for a living. (what's up with that?) So he gives me a careless driving ticket and says I took off and went too fast for conditions (raining). Anyway, he mentioned the ticket was a hundred and something fine and 3 points but later when I look at the ticket theres nothing on the back (no amount for a fine or address where to mail it)

Do you think I can fight this ticket? I really feel victimized but the cop didn't seem to notice I'd run the light and didn't make me walk the line or anything so I felt lucky to get away with just a ticket (could have been much worse my car car didn't get damaged and I didn't go to jail) Wrong place wrong time I guess. Be careful in these little hick towns. I don't know, the whole scene was really fishy. I did nothing to provoke the guy in the truck except maybe passing him, I don't know. I honestly wonder if I wasn't a victim of some kind of police scam. Sounds crazy I know but cops will target people and try to find a way to pull them over. My friend now tells me he thinks it was just coincidence but at the time I was pulled over even he said this seems like a setup. Am I crazy or would cops actually pull something like this? I guess the roadrage guy seemed a little unconvincing cause I did nothing to provoke the guy but he when he rushed my car I reacted. I really shouldn't jump to wild conclusions like this but my gut tells me that whole scene was really bogus.

That's really wierd...The only thing I can say is that there are some very unstable folks out there who get very angry at things that most people can't find anything wrong with. I'd hope it's not a police scam. It's never good to hear about corruption in the Gov't.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll avoid the 'hick' towns like the plague.

Tye,
Just out of curiosity, were you pulled over by a Sheriff Deputy or a local town cop? Not that it really matters, but if it's a set up (which I honestly don't think it is), I'd be more inclined to believe it from some local cop in a small A#% town than from an FHP trooper or a BCSO sheriff's deputy. Maybe...

Now, I will say, there are some crazy redneck, truck driving idiots around where I live (Space Coast) so, who knows?

(No offense to any crazy redneck, truck driving idiots around where I live)

sorry to hear that, next time if some a..hole follows you, just pick up your cell phone and call the police. In most cases he will leave as soon as he sees you dialing.

It was not a set up... no cop in his right mind would do that.
Next time get a plate # and call 911..that would cover you from any tickets. Sorry to hear that happened to you, just use it as a learning experience.

It was a Brevard county Sheriff Deputy. Yeah, you guys are right it wasn't a setup, cops wouldn't endanger the public like that (I nearly pulled in front of a guy taking off from the light). Just that I knew I'd end up getting pulled over and sure enough I did. Guess I'll just consider myself lucky and pay the ticket. Price I pay for hanging out and partying far from home late at night. I do think my car is a cop magnet and seems to elicit strong reactions from people (good and bad). Maybe I should get another car (less conspicous) to take out at night that wont attract resentful psycho rednecks and cops.

There really wasn't time to call the police and I couldn't get his plate because he stayed behind me and then would pull up beside me when we came to stop trying to jump out and attack. There were a lot of lights on this road and about a 35 mph speed limit. It all happened pretty fast. But that's good advice, I just don't think it would have detered this crazy ****.

I think you did the right thing Tye,

Theres no other way to really diffuse the situation. Calling the cops could help but how long would that take?

Getting pulled over was just bad luck compiling on to your already smooth night.

It's stories like these that make you want to leave a glock under your seat.

i think i would have fought him before i ran the redlight. specialy if it was 2 verse 1.

then again maybe im stupid, i think i would have at least waited till he had touched the car. I dont carry a gun or any thing but if i had one and damage was done to my car i can see my self shooting him in the leg a few times hehe.

I use to carry a bat in my car, been harassed before by crazy people but a bat is pretty good for any number of situations that might pop up. Taser works wonders too from watching the cops shows.

Just another reason to hate florida. This state is a freaking cesspool.

I would have done the same thing, but would have taken a right if possible.

In any other situation NOT involving my car, I would fight back. But the problem is, your car will ALWAYS get damaged in a situation like that so I choose to just avoid them if possible.

I keep a disposable camera (w/flash for effect) in the car. In two instances, taking the the person's picture when they are leaning out of the car yelling, flipping me off, etc.) has diffused the situation.

This is why I have a CC permit and a USP45... just remember, the first thing you say once you call it in is "I was afraid for my life!"

I have to wonder if you were obstinantly blocking the left lane. Sounded like the guy rolled up on your right.

There are lots of whacky people out there, but I've been stuck for miles behind inconsiderate people like that coming from New Smyrna. I'm not saying you provoked this guy, but there's always the other side of the story too.
