Default hand brake 6mt 04

Car almost rolled out of the garage this morning. For some reason the hand brake became lose, any ideas?

If I'm at home, I never leave the car in gear and use the hand brake only.

I always leave my car in gear, especially if there is an incline. If your worried about putting stress on your transmission, try stopping the car pulling the e-brake, then turning off the engine and letting out the clutch.

^ +1, Yup it's a good idea to leave it in gear when you park.

Yep, you should always be in the habit of leaving your car in gear when parking it.

Take it to Nissan they can tighten up the cable for you...

+2 its always better to use the E-brake as the second resort in case anything happens. I dunno how you do it honestly, I couldn't walk away from my Z knowing I relied soley on the E-brake especially on a grade. Good luck.

I parked on a slight incline a month after I got my Z. guess what, came back and it was laying on the car in front of me. So now my car has a *dimple. ug. Also if you're not in the habit of leaving it in gear and someone else does....when you start the car and don't check the shifter....OUCH. I did that when I first got my car, right after I signed all the paperwork. Good thing my salesguy backed it into the parking space. I'm sure all the salesguys were laughing at me. LOL. Moral of the stories is to leave it in GEAR!!

Thats exactly my issue! My wife takes the Z sometimes, at home I never leave it in gear. She never checks to see if the car's in gear or not

Coming from a car that had a turbo timer on it I've in the habit of just using the ebrake. I've never had an issue with it.

dealership will not do it for free. I have that issue w/ my car and I just have gotten in the habit of leaving it in gear. I also came from a car w/ a turbo timer and it was easy to get in the habit of leaving it in gear. I always depress the clutch when starting it so it is not an issue.

Doesn't the clutch need to be depressed to turn your Z on?

I friggen hate it when the valet or car wash people have it parked for you with the engine off and you turn it on and let the clutch out only to have the car gallop foward and die. Makes me furious... I rather just use the "Parking" brake only.... the thing about that is.... you need to give it some muscle when you pull it into place... Not a wimpy tug or yes it will roll on you. My gf can never get my parking break undone, lol, so she can't drive my car unless I'm around.

Only idea is somebody in your family enjoys your car "kids perhaps? neighbor visiting your house?" sat in your car, played around a little bit and undid the parking brake. I know i did to my dad's car when i was growing up. Had racecar fantasies just sitting in his cherry red 76 Stingray corvette all the time.
