Default Used 350Z question

I'm going to check out an 03 Z sometime this week and the car has 28k miles.

I'm aware of some of the issues with these cars but buying a car is like a lottery..... you can get one that has no problem or one that has a ton of them.

My question was this; is 28k miles too much for this car? Its a sports car and I'm going to assume that it was driven liek one so is 28k miles too much for this car? Basically, how is the reliability of the Zs?

Thakns

28k isnt too bad... Thats about the avg person driveing for a 2year old car. But is there anyway u can check for past history of tire feathering issues? Clutch or/and Tranny ever been replaced? There are alot of 03's with problems yes, but there are a handful of 03's with out problems as well. Test drive it of course, check all the gears, and listen for a ROARING sound coming from the tires.. haha

Iam guessing he cant afford a BRAND NEW Z.. or else he would just skip the worries of the 03 and 04 Z's and get an 04.5 or 05 Z.

yea, i cant afford a new one but this one is selling for $20k. I'm pretty sure he has the tire feathering issue because he said that the dealership replaced his front tires recently at no charge....

also, if I do buy this car i will go to Nissan and purchase the extended bumper to bumper warrenty so the car has to be in decent shape.

do you guys know what the extended warrenties run for? is it around $1,000 bucks like most car manufacturers offer?

I'm also in the market to get a Z. Do ALL the 03's have the tire feathering problem, or is it just a selection of them. Once Nissan fixes it, is it perm. fixed or do you constantly have to keep getting it realigned? If it keeps reoccuring even after the dealership "fixes" it, are you entitled to free tires the life of the car, how does that work??

You also said about the tranny and clutch replaced? Are there problems with the drivetrain as well, I haven't heard of any such thing like that yet...

A friend of mine has an 03 supercharged Z that I watched dyno at 485HP. He has stock motor and tranny(clutch) and says he has no problems whatsoever with almost 15k miles since he boosted it. I hope I can get as lucky as he did with having no problems. I'm coming from the DSM world...a world of unreliability and repairs...would like a change for once.

03's and 04's seem to have the most complaints reported by various owners. tire feathering(multiple tire replacements), grinding transmissions (multiple tranny replacements) Try to get a late production 04 or at least a used 05. Seems nissan may have attempted to fix these issues by the 05 production. Its a roll of the dice , good luck.

also be prepared to encounter anything from good to horrible service depts.

whats DSM????

Yup, thats right. I had a 13sec. AWD Talon. Just tired of the low end imported cars...would like to move up in the world being that I'm 19, and pretty much on my own now.
