Just looking through old pics on my comp to clean up my desktop, and came accross these from an old customer who blew their motor drifting....








just thought i'd share...

 

Hey man, I just finished lunch and those pics almost made me sick. Was that a N/A car?

 

this car was NA, only simple bolt ons. nothing major done at all, and routine service

 

How could this have happened?

Oil does not lube properly when the car experiences sideways g-force over long periods of time. The stock oil system depends on gravity. Correct me if I'm wrong, this is my take on it.

How could simple bolt on cause that. I actually read of someone else here on the board in Miami whos motor blew and No FI was in his car just bolt ons. How to avoid that then?

 

I think the point is DRIFTING caused the failure (misuse)

NOT mods.

In fact if he HAD some oil system mods, he probably would've been fine in my conjecture.

 

+1... that's a lot of abuse in those parts.

quite possibly oil starvation? thats a shame....

 

OUCH!!! looks like the 3.0L we took out of an N/A Z32 last year. He had been drifting too and we were of the opinion that it was oil starvation. He bought a new core, rebuilt the engine, added a higher volume/higher pressure oil pump and put a windage tray in the oil pan. Seems to be working as he's back at it again. He also does some track time.

We also wondered if he didn't over rev it a few times in the past. In any event, defecation occurs, don't it?

 

I need to make something clear in this thread...

modifications did not cause this...

 

I thought this was clear... it seems like an oil system problem -- since clearly the stock oil system is not meant to take lateral G's for any period of time. Modifications possibly could have saved the engine, to make it better equipped for drifting. That's just my take from the limited information I have.

perhaps just a failure of the oil pump?

 

how did drifting cause this??
