Help with brake pads
I tried putting in the new Hawk brake pads I bought, and I can not no matter how hard I try, I can't break the bolts loose on the calipers, anybody got any hints or tricks. Thanks
They were quite tight the first time I changed pads also. Probably the impact wrench used at the factory overtrightened them. I used my 1/2" torque wrench handle which is quite long--maybe 18+". After the first replacement I torqued them back to specifications in the shop manual...don't recall what that was but much easier to remove when I later changed pads.
red350zguy: I'm assuming that you have a set of tools. I used to have only 3/8" sockets and when I added 1/2" the difference in torque ability was immediately apparent. A dead blow mallet--beads or brass is really helpful.
I've really enjoyed doing all of the maintainance on my 350 over the past 2 years. So far no electrical problems which are beyond my tool set and experience. The shop manual is quite well written and helpful.
Somehow it always works out this way--If there are 4 bolts to remove--3 of them come off really easy and the 4th is a *****.
