Default Automatic Shifting

I have never owned an auto with a "manumatic" before. I did drive an RSX with the 5spd auto, since it was the only car they had on the lot. I upshifted it with my accelerator foot flat on the floor. It didn't feel right, the shift was slow and jerky. Should I lift like a manual while shifting? Does the car match revs when you down shift? I am in unfamilar territory here and I need some help. What's the best way to shift the auto on the Z?

Boomer--Help please

Default VW Tiptronic

I have had a VW tiptronic in a V-6 passat for 3 1/2 years. This transmission is a 5 speed automatic and was ahead of its time. I have experemented with the tiptronic feature mostly at traffic lights to pull redline in each gear. The transmission shifts smothly not jerky like a manual at all. The only thing is it's not fun like a manual transmission. Also as the previous poster stated you probably don't go any faster then if you leave it in drive. These transmissions ars programed to shift at redline or close if you floor it while its in drive. I would avoid the automatic like the plague because 1) not fun, and 2)slower than a manual.
