350Z will do 0-60 in 4.9
Another point I'm willing to bet on is that 350Z will do the 0-60 in 4.9. Nissan wants to go head to head with the C5 and the Boxster S and to do that it will have to match on acceleration. I'm also guessing that this big ad campaign starting next week, will show the Horsepower to be 300 or more...cross your fingers. Also, remember the Lotus Elise goes on sale next year, don't think they didn't plan for that.

Z Dreamer....
It would be nice, but sorry... the 350Z's stats don't quite equal that. I know the stats that are being released July 3rd (or sooner in packages to those with pre-orders) and it's not under 5.0. I can't give exact details because of the Press embargo, but it's not that low.
It is impressive though. One other thing, Nissan never intended to go against the C5. Not in any way actually. Their target audience is the crowd buying the Porsche Boxster Type S and the Honda s2000. The Audi TT gang etc.
The stats take out all of the above. (aside from the C5)
I am more than sure people will be happy but even after all is said and done, somebody that will most likely never own a Z to begin with for whatever reason.... will post how they're unhappy with the final numbers blah blah blah.
A true Z fan will be more than pleased with the final digits. I am 150% positive of it.
I hate this not being able to blab stuff.

Not to burst you guys' bubble, but contrary to what JmanZ says, I seriously doubt the Z will be a mid 5 second car to 60. Let's say it puts out 280 hp. That means we'll see at MOST 265 - 270 whp. The LS1 cars put about 290 hp to the ground and still barely see 5.3 0-60 times. Keep in mind the Z and the F-body LS1's are probably right around the same weight. Also, the LS1 puts out a lot more torque than the 350Z.
This is just a speculation, but if you still choose to ream my *** for saying this, please, I will hold no ill will against anyone; proceed.

am I missing something?
Hey Jman,
your reply was quite interesting. You posted recently that the press packets would likely contain 0-60 times of 5.5 and something like 287 HP.
Now you are saying you can't say. Hmm, you got my attention.. Did you receive newer info since then? Since you are sworn to silence, I'm not asking for details, just whether what you are keeping the "hush hush" on is new info, or simply the info you posted that I mentioned above.
Thanks,,

Jay is obviously being very smug. He has said all along that it'll be 5.2, so I'm guessing that that is what it'll be (thus proving him right). And an RX7 makes 4.9? It isn't stock is it? I've seen mag. reports that say like 5.1, 5.2 but never under five. What do you have in it?

i am confused here..
JMANZ...do you know the actual official stats that Nissan will tell us comes July 3rd? or are you giving out info based on some other sources that are reliable? I am not asking you to tell us the stats, i know thats not fair to ask..what i am asking you is:
Do you know anything that is official outside of the "final stats" post that you posted? it is confusing me since it isnt July 3rd, yet you are giving out hints..just yes or a no answer will clear up my confusion..
thanx

I have to go with J on this one 5.2 sec seems about right. I have been thinking about 5.0 sec but stock it seems doubtful (not impossible). 4.9 sec is also not impossible.
I like to compare cars with similar power/weight. The 350Z is a little heavier than the 911 or NSX both of these cars with 290-300 HP are under 5 sec.
The M3 convertible is interesting, this is a portly car at 3838 pounds (650 pounds more than the Z) has done 0-60 in 5.1 sec. It has less torque than the Z but 46 more HP. Still its power to weight is worse than the Z (11.5 -- M3 convertible vs 11.1 --Z )
Another way of looking at things is to look at slower cars with less HP:
S2000 2790pounds 240 HP 153 TQ 5.5 sec 14.1 @ 99.6
BMW M roadster 3070pounds 240 HP 236 TQ 5.4 sec 14.0@99.5
Boxter S 3020pounds 250 HP 225 TQ 5.6 sec 14.0 @100.5
The Z should beat these three cars. Things are getting interesting.

i am getting excited here..i am not gonna stop posting until July 3rd..LOL.
hmm, now that we kind of know what the 0-60 times will be, what are your guys guesses?? these guesses will be much more accurate then our earlier guesses when we didnt know much.
Looking at it now, i am thinking 5.3-5.4, I thought about 5.2, but i think that might be pushing it just a tad. anybody??
so, JMANZ, give us a guess, will ya...

Lotus Elise???
Have you been in the Elise? It has NOTHING inside!!! You sit almost directly on the floor. I can't see anyone choosing the Elise over the Z or Visa Versa. They are just way too different. With that said the Elise will smoke the Z.
And even thought the base price of the Elise is in the HIGH 30's Dealers are charging 10G + over invoice to preorder. I spoke to a dealer at the car show in Atlanta, and he said they would be charging 15+ over invoice when they hit the car lot.
Nice Track car, but I am buying me Z as an everyday driver. I need things like AC, Stereo, Cruise, etc..etc..
I am not trying to flame, but I don't see the two cars as competitors.

NNA vs Mags
I agree guys, Nissan official numbers will probably be around 5.2 for 0-60.
But if this thing has 290+ HP, I'd be willing to bet a lot of cash that some magazine out there will be able to run a sub 5 second 0-60 run.
There is just too much precedence with other cars of similar power/weight ratios doing so.
Not like it matters,, 4.9 or 5.2,, its all the same ballpark.
But its just my 2 cents.
