This will never happen, I don't even know why we're discussing it.

everyone will just end up driving old bangers, why spend out on a decent car, these cars will ultimately be less safe.

If a car will only go 70mph for example then it will only need brakes that can stop it from 70mph. therefore they will be greatly inferior to the brakes on a 150mph car, the same can be said for chassis, steering, suspension. If I stepped into the road in front of a car I would prefer to do it in front of a Ferrari than a Fiesta knowing a Ferrari has a much shorter stopping distance

I'd be willing to voluntarily sign up to get heavy insurance and toll discounts,IF the government would put sane speed limit on roads. If they bump the limit on Interstate highways and rural 4 lane highways to 85-90mph and rural routes up to 75mph. Really there's no legitimate reason to speed in a residential/school zones, but in most other places you could easily bump the speed up 10 mph. Then I wouldn't give a crap, because that's all the faster I go anyway.

Why would you choose the Scota as a test vehicle? I doubt if it can exceed the speed limit in the first place.

I've always wondered that. I mean take the z for example, why put one there at all if its going to be at like 150mph.

I'm still not following the override to avoid a hazard, I probably like many have been a few close calls "hazardous situations" but dont recall having to floor it to avoid, normally its braking or turning or the combination. And how would it know to allow hi-speeds to avoid hazards or do you have to scream HELP and the car allows you to punch. (I do recall one time since I got my license that flooring it was a necessity, but only for about 10 secs)

Think about the income and employment generated in the US by the BIG 4! Even if we were to pretend they don't have a deep relationship with Washington they are still a crucial part of the economy. One could speculate that gas mileage could have been greatly improved had it not impacted the oil companies' revenue. Cars that go fast use more gas. Furthermore, the engineers and the execs are car guys too, they would throw a fit if the government asked them to limit the engineering of automobiles to 80MPH capable vehicles.

The one whom came up the idea must be an idiot.

Similar restrictions include a chip that can be installed in newer automobiles that can be used by police to "deactivate" your car... IE if it is stolen, or you yourself are involved in a speeding frenzy. People argue that this chip is an invasion of privacy, but the way I see it, as long as you follow the rules you have NOTHING to lose! Besides, it's not like it detects you wherever you go, it simply has the mechanism appropriate to discontine the engine operation.

If this were to happen, why build cars that have enough horsepower to exceed the speed limit in the first place? Just my .02
