Default Buy Now or Wait for the 'Vert??? Decisions...Opinions please..

Hi guys,
Great forum!! Here is my story, I have every intention of getting a new 350Z car, however living in Florida, I really want a Convertible.......I want a brickyard red Z car Touring pkg MN6.....There is one avalable December 18th unspoken for in a near by dealership coming in.......The problem.....should I wait and get a convertible Z or enjoy the coupe now and upgrade later when the Vert comes out......of course loosing at least $2 to $3K in the process..........Does anyone have any new info on the Vert? I heard April or June 03....now I hear Feb. 03?

Any different stories from elsewhere around the U.S.?

Opinions and comments welcome...
Thanks in advance.....

I do not know when it will be coming out but my guess would be the next modle year, being the 2004 it would most likely come out the same time the Z came this year -- Early Sep.

should I wait and get a convertible Z or enjoy the coupe now and upgrade later when the Vert comes out
Ultimatly it is up to you... but you sound like the finantial is not an issue if you would go for the coupe now and the vert later.

But I really think that you answered your own question in your first post.

I really want a Convertible

My dealer told me he was unsure about a time, because they are currently working on a problem on how to get the glass to set right.... something having to do with the window rolling down when the door is opened and then back up when it's closed. having problems getting it to sit correctly....

don't quote me on that!

Edmunds shows Feb. 2003, but I don't know how old this information is...

I think that a $2-3k loss would be optimistic. Better to budget for around 20% for a first year trade in.

sounds to me, that if its being shown in april, you will likely not see delivery on them untill about september as a 2004 model, one year behind the coupe. expect about 3000$ price increase, and they might remove base and enthusiast from the convertable options. making the performance the "base" and then you can upgrade with a sport or luxury package.

thats just my thoughts on what will happen.

I cant wait to see how it looks, but Im not real interested, drove a convertable, in GA no less. where you might think its perfect weather. nah, it gets too hot, you sweat in traffic. then you say, put the top up, problem solved, the sweating problem yes; but you still hear EVERYTHING. it just is much funner in theory and for the occasional joy ride, then as a permanent car.

I talked to the nissan rep. at the dealer last week. She said it will be unvialed at the Detroit International Auto Show. Jan 5th. open to the public Jan 11th. I will be at the press release black tie. If what she says is true I will have the pics up that same night!!!

not to say your wrong, but I have yet to hear anything truthful come out of anyone at a dealership, even if he doesnt work there and is a nissan rep, anyone with real info doesnt go out to dealers. if he does turn out to be right, I think it would be a lucky guess.

Im VERY suprised they didnt find some japan auto show to feature it at first. very odd that they would unveil the car in america. does japan only have that one autoshow? and it only happens every other year? thats wierd for a country with such a huge automotive market.

yo man.. the article in C+D with the s2000 vs the Z will answer the dilemma I think. The major complaints over the s2000 all revolved around it being a convertible. Wind noise etc. But also I think that they mention the S being heavier than it should be, due to necessary body reinforcement. The same thing could happen to the Z. Maybe itll get heavier and thus slower. Or maybe the handling characteristics will chnage. I think you should wait and see!

I also struggled with the same decision.

My performance LeMans is expected in February. I'm still not sure how I feel about going without a convertible for the 1st time in 5 years. I really, really love driving with no top. But I finally figured that if I decide I need the convertible, I can just sell the hardtop. The 1st year of the new Z, I probably will minimize any hit I take on depreciation. And I will be able to test drive the convertible, compare the 2, decide if the trunk space is enough, and if I really do prefer the convertible.

I realize that I might be wrong about the depreciation. Worst case, I figure it will be around $6,000. But my ultimate decision will not be bound by economics alone.
