I wanted a C6, but ultimately didn't want the payment for a car I drive once a week. My target price was up to $40k MSRP. I used to have a modified 2003 WRX, so the Evo and STi were pointless. I looked at the S2000, too small for me, didn't like the power delivery. This left the RX-8 and 350Z, and I spent about 3 weeks obsessing over the brochures and anything I could find on the web. I test drove both at least 4 times. If the RX-8 had about 50+ more hp/tq I'd have bought it for sure. I was also skeptical about reliability. In the end I just couldn't justify it, even though I liked the car somewhat better than the Z. Since the Z was a second choice, I went for the 35th so at least it had everything on it. It's a nice car, but I'm sure I'll get rid of it in about 2 years and go for the C6 instead. The Z feels a bit slow to me, and I am unwilling to throw away money modding a car again like I did with the WRX...

I know several people who dispise Japanese cars and use slurs like "Jap-crap" and "rice-rocket" yet even these people have a soft spot for the Z. I think it has to do with the heritage and what the Z meant back in the 70's. It was really the working class man's vette and it got decent gas milage for the time.

In January of '03 the only other contender I was still looking at was the S2000. Somehow, though a great true sports car on the track, it was losing its appeal to me. When the Z made its return in the fall of '02 with all that hp, trq, handling and sexy styling, it instantly won me over.

Though I still love the Z, I am keeping my eyes on the near future... already looked at the Rousch Mustang GT, BMW Z4 (wifey bought it), etc.(I should slap myself for listing the M3 as an "etc"), but trying to hold on for serious Z improvements, the Skyline or Supra

My want list history went a little like this…

1) Nissan 350Z – great car, great looks and affordable. This is where I started my search…

2) ’00-’02 Boxster S – looked at these for about 2 months. Loved the car and handling, but for low mileage and the options I wanted would run me low $30s. I can’t justify spending that money when a 1999 996 was so close in price.

3) 1999 996 coupe – looked at these for a month or so. Could find them all day long for around $35 with 40K-60K miles. I worried about the Rear Main Seal issue (as hyped up on the internet in a similar way to the tire roar issue). I decided to wait until the 997 become 4/5 years old and then grab on of those.

4) S2000 – I sold mine about a year ago. I still LOVE the car, but needed something different.

5) 350Z – purchased mine (used) yesterday and it will be shipped on Monday. I CAN”T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was going to wait for the Lancer EVO IX to come out later this year, but then decided it was going to be rape on the price so i started to look at the 350z and S2K (due to the honda lease special), got the 350z for the performance but later my sister got the s2k so i guess i could drive either really, i like both cars but driving the S2K after driving the Z makes it feel like i'm driving a civic LOL

Nothing else. It was my dream car. Only RWD, 2-d, coupe, sports car for 30k. Audi TT doesn't have enough power, IMO, to be considered a sports car.
