Default So here is my situation......

Dealer has an 03 Performance Z with 20k miles on it for 24,000. I have worked with this dealer before and believe I could get it to around 22500 or 23000. Here is what I ask you guys. Would you purchase the extended service plans for this car. Seeing how its an 03, and not brand new, I think it may be beneficial to go ahead and buy this with the car. It would cover me to 84 months after the initial car purchase...which would be 4-5 years later. I do plan on eventually modding the car a lil, but nothing EXTENSIVE performance wise. I/H/E and that will probably be it......the rest will be cosmetic additions....(im in a show car club, hence the reason for that). So.......would you buy it or not? Just for the peace of mind of tire feathering, alignment issues, and tranny issues?

Thanks
Brett

if its got 20k all those things should have already shown up so what i would do is ask for a service recoprd of the vehicle if they have one and look for myself. Warranties are trash in most instances.

You probably have a little time to make that decision. Go back to the dealership and look at the label on the driver side door to see what the build date is. You'll know how many more months of coverage you have before you have to decide whether or not you want to get an extended warranty.

i didnt think the build date mattered, i was always under the impression that the warranty date starts from the moment the car is driven off the lot.

If I were you I would not. If you're buying it from a Nissan dealership, it should come with a 100k miles extended used car warranty or whatever you call it. Also, if you plan on modding it, performance wise, it will void your warranty most likely and it would be a waste of money. just my opinion.

My understanding is it's build date that kicks the warranty off. I could be wrong, does anyone know for sure?

It's usually first delivery of the car when the warrantee begins.

Rat is correct, it's the "Initial In-Service Date" that starts the clock ticking. Nobody would buy a car that took 6 months to sell if it meant getting 6 months less warranty!

$22,5 is still too much for an '03 performance model with those miles. More like $21K, methinks.

we worked my payments down to 425/month with 1000 trade in. This is my price range for sure, oh and that 425 includes the tax rolled in, just have to pay property tax and tags

now its time to see if I can truly afford it, back to the calculator.

please don't shop payments. That's how they will find a way to screw you. Best thing you can do is get pre-approved for a loan through your bank or credit union (or even online at e-loan or a similar place). Then, with that pre-approved rate, you can easily figure out your own payments using any payment calculator on the internet (i personally prefer bankrate.com for both calculators and for shopping for the best rates). Once you know what payments would be based on money spent (for instance, I always go into a dealer knowing "$xx per month per $1K financed"), its much easier to just deal with them on the SELLING price of the car, NOT payments.

well right, he didnt just say we'll make the payment such and such. trust me, i know the ways they try to screw ya, 72 months as opposed to 60 months. Im using Nissan Credit again since they have always been good to me, i got 2.9% last time, granted that was a new car, but Nissan has a deal where they can get you the lowest finance rate special possible if you have made good on payments for the last 18 months i think it is. I appreciate everyone's concern

Thanks

The dealer that I bought my '05 Z from on Saturday showed me a bunch of Nismo stuff in their performance department while we were waiting for the paperwork to finish.

You know-the hot exhaust setup, ram air cleaners, bunch of Nismo things

I spotted one of those special Air cleaners and said 'but won't that void the warranty'?

He said that if it was installed by them within a week or 2 of buying the car that the 'part' was covered.

I said that I was talking about the car warranty not the air cleaner to which he said that if you did it yourself, there would be no warranty on the Air cleaner but that any EXTERNAL modification would NOT void the warranty on the car.
A turbo is not considered external, for some reason.

Well, the so-called "Peformance" model wasn't a performance model, more like a base. Can't believe how they tried to pass it off for a performance z. No HID, no traction, lil 17 in wheels, no cruise control........i was pissed to say the least. I did look at a white performance z, for sure on this one lol, and they had it at like 26000 for a car with 27000 miles on it....so i sent them an email saying how frustrated i was with them about the black z and about how much other cars like this in the area go for. So I offered him 500 over KBB trade in to start, he said he would be calling me back shortly lol.

03 performance appears in good shape, with 27000 miles on the clock. What is the highest you guys would go? Im thinking anything above 22k is to high for that car.

Absolutely anything above $22K is too high because $22K itself is too high.

Seriously, if you have doubts, find out what a dealership would give you for trade-in on that car. Its going to be like $18K. Am I saying you should get it for trade-in value? Of course not. But I AM saying you shouldn't be paying $4K over trade-in value for it.

I don't know what you're talking about. I was just at a dealership last night that said he'd give me $23k for my '03 Performance if it was stock...(more since I did some good mods to it). I was looking at a Porsche Boxster S for kicks.

You have to remember that prices are going to differ quite a bit depending on what part of the country you live in.
