August Car & Driver

Sure..... if you buy five magzines that have tested the same car, it is really rare that you get the same results. The results that C&D have gotten is after they tested the car, a car I'd like to point out was not a final production car.
Secondly, I think you'll find other magazines have different information, and later when C&D retest the car, against other cars, with a final production car, I think you'll see different results.
I don't want you to think I am talking huge differences, I'm not. Just different figures. The stuff they are printing is the stuff that was in the Nissan Press kit. When a magazine is created, they need to go to press a month before the issue hits stands, sometimes two months.... so this info they're using is older info.
I wish we had a final prodcution car being tested.... that might change things somewhat.
Time will tell

I emailed you. Can you send me the mag cover please? Thanks a bunch! Aprqt@aol.com

I hate to be the skeptic here, but :
#1 How could this magazine be in existence yet i.e. why has NO ONE ELSE received their subscription (a subscription that eveyone else who gets the mag. says doesn't normally come out until a week or two into the month) except this one person?
#2 If there really was a July 3rd embargo (ZISME said there was), then how could this C&D issue get away with releasing this without violating it?

Thanks 2000Rdstr for sending me this... here it is for others to see/save.. whatever they wish to do with it
Keep in mind people, this is ONE MAGAZINE's results... not necessarily the final digits. As this was sent out and it is in the public, we have chosen to post it. We are not posting other info we have until July 3rd though....nothing personal.
(just keeping with the rules)

Oh, now I'm mad.
Screw the 0-60!
Screw the 1/4 mile!
Screw the top speed!
Screw the handling!
But, no way is the Z going to weight over 3200lbs. Surely not. Please say it ain't so. This would be a disaster of HUGE proportions. No car that heavy will ever be tunable for anything but cruising. If I wanted cruising I would have bought a Mustang.
Somebody please help me out here. Can I at least assume it included the weight of the driver?
BTW: The date is missing from the Mag above. Why? [Sorry, my mistake.]

Flyingscot - look under the big"C" in Car aand Driver for the date. I usually get my Road & Track a few days after Car & Driver. Does this mean I have to go through all of this again????
I dont know whether to be upset at these numbers (which I am sure will change) or the fact that I only got my July issue last week which means I gotta wait another 3 weeks for the august one.
Okay, my mistake. Just seeing red mist right now. The weight thing is bugging me. Mazda, Honda, Porsche and Toyota can all make a car well under 3000lbs so where does Nissan put the lead weights?

Not starting a flame... but come on Flyingscot... maybe you're not being reasonable here?
Honda s2000 is a 4 cylinder car.. that makes up for some weight going to v-6 I would think. Porsche is SEVERAL thousand dollars more. Mazda doesn't have a final prodcution car for the RX-8 or new RX-7 out yet so I can only assume you're talking of the older RX-7 series... car that has more problems than most sports cars (unreliable, breaks down all the time, the list goes on and on) and the Supra, while a great car, was a great deal more expensive too.
I would imaging if we were paying $40-50,000 area, the car might be a tad lighter. For $27,000-34,000 range though, show me ONE car that is lighter/faster. (a car worth owning I should say)
Maybe I am missing the point here.... I don't think there is one.
just my two cents..

Just remember that Nissan promised 0-60 under 6 seconds and under 30K.They have delivered though those times seem a tad bit slow to me.As far as weight is concerned,I would assume that includes the driver.I would be shocked if the Z weighed over 3300 lbs unladen.
0-60 is decent, and handling sounds workable.
All in all a good deal ..
but the 1/4 mile times of 14.1 and the weight of > 3300lbs is kinda disappointing.
I dont want to jump to any conclusions, but if this is true then the Z while still a great deal isnt necessarily as great as some of the hype surrounding it would have you to believe.
The s2000 that they want to compete against outperforms it and has the added bonus of being a roadster/convertible for nearly the same price. (but i dont wanna start a flame war about torque, etc..)

If these are the final numbers, withing a few tenths or pounds or g's here and there, I can honestly say that I would be very happy!
This car is stylish and unique. It's performance is going to be more than enough for 98% of the drivers and will be treasured. That's what I asked for and that's what I want.
Nissan delivered. To them I say thank you!!

btw, i'm happy with those numbers, seriously. final cars will probably run low 5's 0-60 and high 13's 1/4, not bad for under $30k.

somebody mentioned supras, supras are an absolute whale, something like 3600 lbs or so..
You all are being way too picky. You knew what Nissan promised going into this and they have exceeded those specs in every way. Just because there was a rumor that it would be 315hp or 300hp or whatever, doesn't make it true. Also, these magazines can vary greatly on acceleration times for all kinds of reason, so we'll have to see what the others say.
