August Car & Driver
The trap speed doesn't make sense with that 14.1 ET?? Maybe the clutch has already been worked to death, that makes more sense. If the clutch was costing .2 seconds that would mean 0-60 in 5.2 and 1/4 of 13.9. That makes more sense with a 101 mph trap. How can a freakin slushbox, lower HP, heavier G35 be only .8 sec behind in the 0-60?
What I find interesting is that on every other msgboard where this information has been posted (VWVortex, Clubsi, I-Club, just to name a few), all the responses have been super positive. Yet here, on an acctual 350Z board, there's a buncha pissing and moaning.
Unless we get scans of the article, or at least some more numbers (slolam, braking, etc), I think this thread has been milked for all it's worth.
p.s. SeedyRom's post was right on.

Can we please get the entire article scanned for all of us to read? I know you had trouble with the scanner, but we would all be eternally greatfull if you would scan the whole article and get it to Jay so that we can read it, Thanks!
Did they test the car with the antenna screwed on the car or did they take it off.
Don't you all know that cuts down drag and gives the expected 5.2 0-60 and the 13.5 quater mile.
Thats what my sources say---my third cousins sisters brothers friend at the manufactuer of the acme fixed antenna shop said.

........PLEASE WAIT AND SEE ALL THE INFORMATION THIS IS JUST ANOTHER TIDBIT.........I UNDERSTAND I CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT ALL EITHER.
For some unknown reason some areas of the world get special treatment on magazine delivery. Yesterday I received a japanese magazine for August. It has the Fairlady specs. that are supposed to remain stum until 29-06. But here it is!
0-60 in 5.4 secs is awesome.
the 1/4 mile time is pretty crappy, but then again, like everyone had said, this isnt the production car and this is only one mag.
god, i cant wait till July 3rd, hopefully we get little better numbers.

That's the problem!
Can we please stop this whining over a preliminary test on a pre-production car? As mentioned before, Nissan has delivered on 98% of what they originally promised on a $27,000 sportscar. If you decided, as I did, to add options and buy the Touring or Track model and pay $35,000 plus, then it was your decision.
Being concerned if the car does 0-60 in 5.4, 5.2 or 4.9 is only important if you want to do some table racing with your friends over one too many beers and you need to feel superior to someone else whose car posted slower in a C&D test result. And if you are someone who wants good results in a magazine so you can feel fairly confident in a "street race", please give some thought to the risk to your car and more importantly to the health of you, your passenger and the passengers of cars around you.
Being lucky enough to have seen the car in person, I can guarantee that you will be very happy with the way it looks. If you feel a need to gain that extra .2 or .5 seconds in 0-60 to achieve nirvana, then personalize your car with some Nismo mods, enjoy your life and move on.

If Car and Driver got a 14.1 out of a production fresh Z I garuantee you guys that an owner will pull a 13.9 or quicker stock. I have noticed in the past that C&D has slow times compared to Motor Trend. The power to weight ratio is very nice on the 350. And the trap speed is alittle above avg for a 14.1. This car once broken in and lightly modified with intake and cat-back exhuast (Stillen X-pipe?) will be running mid 13.6X with a good driver. The tires will probably be the first thing I replace, if I end up buying one in Sept.

for some perspective a 2K2 6-speed Maxima owner got 13.9 1/4 time bone stock.

The final car DOES HAVE BETTER numbers.
I KNOW this.

The FINAL PRODUCTION CAR, a car that has NOT BEEN TESTED YET BY ANY MAGAZINE is faster and lighter than C& D said.
Trust me people, I would have closed this thread long ago if it were not for the humor I find from those that seem to be jumping ship over pre-production stats. I think it's funny.

Those that are true Z freaks, you know who you are, are just fine with the car because you didn't by it to race some idiot at the corner lights. You bought it because it looks great, is fast and incredibly inexpensive compared to other cars in it's market and most importantly, is a Z.
Someone had quoted the price of a s2000 for $32,500 or something like that earlier. I'd like that person to try and actually buy one that cheap. When I was entertaining this car last year, I couldn't find a dealer willing to part with it for under $38,000.
Trust me people, the 350Z will dazzle you once the final production car is tested. Those that are not impressed with what they're getting for their money have other choices and I am 150% positive there will be no shortage of people willing to buy your car. The WRX is a great alternative, that is, if you don't mind a crappy resale value.
(if you plan on keeping it for a good deal of time though, it's a GREAT car. I have a buddy that owns one and swears by it. I can't wait to test him on a road course against my Z. It'd be close for sure.
)Sorry for sounding bitter.... but it's tough seeing all these people being skeptical and even throwing out the idea that this C&D cover was forged. The X files, this is not.
That cover is real and the article is real. Why hasn't the guy scanned the entire article for us yet? Well heck, he'd only been to this site for the first time today.... odds are he hasn't had time yet. I am sure he will scan it all shortly though. In fact, I'll email him and ask him to.
JUST REMEMBER.... it's a PRE PRODUCTION CAR they are talking about.
I know most of you true blue Z fans are sticking with the car, and you won't be disappointed one bit. The car weighs 3188 by the way, so stop sweating the small details.

wait and see, all will be shown soon enough.
(trust me, it's killing me too)

God, where is July 3rd?? haha
this is getting out of hand...but i must admit, though this is a rough time and everyone is jumping out of place, including me, it is very exciting at the same time. all of this for one amazing vehicle...Bravo Nissan..
cant wait for my silverstone Z.

Jay, you keep insisting that this is real. Why then, has no one addressed the Almighty July 3rd embargo? How can they have violated it with this article? Supposedly (as was posted here many times) any mag. that would violate this sacred date would suffer severe repercussions. How can they do this? No one seems to have an answer.
