Thats why its probably been said a million times and Im sure most would agree the ONLY true protection is Good full coverage insurance and Gap insurance. If they want it they'll get it no arguments there.

But then again the DP or a Mandatory life sentence for a car thief would be a great deterrent to car theft. Anyone remember "Magnum Force" Sweet, Davis etc.. ? just imagine one of those guys came motoring down the road and spots some dude breaking into a car?

BhashaZ, the monitor I have has a max range of 300'. In reality it works best @~250'. But the one I have is almost 5 years old! I'm sure you could find one out there with longer ranges no prob.

Found this on Ebaymotors, seems like this Z was stolen and if u look at the pictures, they spliced wires or something and got it to start. What a beauty it was...

Your buddy is completely wrong.

Back in the early 1980's some cars used resistors - anywhere from 17-27 different values. If the car was attempted to be started with the wrong resistor value the car's computer shut down for a 15 minute delay. A common problem was to get the contacts to the resistor dirty which changed the value. The car would start sometimes and not others. Cadilacs and Corvettes had these things IIRC.

The Nissan 350Z has a transponder inside it with a code that is "pinged" by the car's computer prior to starting. If you read the manual you'll notice that the interigation can take place throughout the interior and warns that another Nissan cars key in the Z might cause problems. My friend has a Morano with the same deal but we haven't caused problems riding in each others cars.

okay. What is gap insurance? I've got full coverage plus parts coverage for all the mods I've done... but they only gave me a $6,000 limit on parts coverage... It probably cost's more for more than 6g's worth of limits.

okay this is what i wondered, with new acura's like the rsx, they have a connection that is detachable that needs to be sent in with the ecu to upgrade the ecu, the company is hondata. and also the key needs to be sent in. from reviewing the rsx, i had my car stolen that way, you ask how. lets start.

1. hondata upgrades ecu
2. hondata can diable the stock alarm.
3. hondata ecu are interchangle among all rsx's
4. so my conclusion, someone swapped out things and my car was stolen.

thats why i am worried to upgrade my ecu to technosquare.... just some insight...

I wouldn't worry about sending it to TS, thats not where the problem lies. The main issue (without getting too technical) is that all newer Nissans have a major security flaw that can allow access to your car even if the stock alarm is armed. The 2nd flaw is that the transponder codes are stored in the ECU, and the ECU plug is easily accessible. The transponder system can be bypassed using a totally stock ECU from a vehicle with the same ECU, if people know what they are doing. You still have the steering wheel lock to deal with, but thats minor. Also, don't forget that flatbed is a sure fire way to steal any car!

Once in the car, he finds where the wire going to the alarm is, plugs a laptop into the wires, and uses a stolen/warezed dealership maintenance software to disable the car alarm.

Then he would bring out this big cain ring with gereric keys of different types of cars. He finds the nissan 350Z key and starts the car and goes.

No alarm went off at all. That is why people get after market car alarms. It's the same reason why there are more hacks/virises for Internet Explorer. The hackers target the most used browser.

So if you have a stock car alarm, there is more of a chance that car theifs will have the right software/tools to disable your stock alarm.
I saw that one too, very interesting...

Gap insurance pays for the difference between the ACV (actual cash value) of the car and whatever balance you owe the bank on your loan...

If you paid cash for your car like 90% of people here (JK ) then you don't need gap insurance...

Get the Autolock. It will atleast slow down the thief. It's like a metal club, but it goes on your gas/clutch/accelerator pedal. It's not easy to cut off.

My buddy did this sorta thing when he was in college. He was dating this chick...her exbf hated my friend. So he kept deflating his tires. So my friend attached his battery to all of his rims. Lets just say that the next day the guys fingers were black and it never happend again. The problem with something like this is the fact that if they do get hurt in YOUR car they can sue YOU. It falls under boobytrapping your car.
