Default brake warning lot on after putting on new wheels?

Hey guys

I have an 05 350z with 10k miles.

I just put on a set of 19x8.5, 19x9.5 Volk CE28N with 245/35/19 up front and 295/35/19 in the rear.

If I drive over 20 miles on the freeway the brake warning light comes on

the light that looks like this (!)

I would pull over, turn off the engine and turn in on again and the light would go away but would come back if I drove for anymore than 20 miles.

this only happens on the freeway, I never experience it while driving on local roads.

I have checked my brake fluid level and everything seems to be fine. Is this something I should worry about? what could this problem be? could it be the wheels and tires that is triggering the light to come on? any people with aftermarket wheels would like to chime in on this?

thanks!

First time, it happened to me, I almost want to give up the car until I got home and read the manual. I drive like a grandma most of the time, and that thing lighted up. I pulled the car over to check for leaks and smokes; of course, none. My car is always hovering around 60mph on freeways, and I don't think I did anything to hurt the car. I almost was expecting the car to die on my way back home. I knew that the wheels I have don't have TPS, but I didn't expect that symbol to be TPS. What you wheels don't have are tire sensors, most, if not all aftermarket wheels don't have that. Only your factory wheels do, unless you install it on your new wheels. Just avoid potholes and tough roads.

I think it may be that there is too great of a difference between front and rear diameters of tires causing your ABS to kick on. difference is 1.3" and it shouldn't be grater than .75" according to direct performance tech website.
The difference for stock.
17" diameters: F 25.9" R 26.3" D 0.4"
18" diameters: F 26.0" R 26.7" D 0.7"

Most people who go with 19" usually go with 245/35 front and 275/35 which is difference of 0.8 so i think the computer allows you to cheat a little I just think yours is a bit excessive. IMO that is what it is. where did you get your tires from? mail order? some companies allow you to return the tires (driven on or not) within 30 days for a different set or pair in your case. and BTW why did you choose that size 295/35?

295/35/19 is like a truck tire size... too big for the rear of the z...

as msand22 said,, the tire diameter is wrong.. it should have been 295/30/19 with that size front...

thanks for the help guys..

I think it might be the tire size. I actually bought the wheels with the tires so theres really not much I can do about it since the tires were brand new never mounted..

I guess I'll run them until I need new ones and get the correct tire size.

there is always ebay. I wouldn't recommend driving with the big rears and small fronts at all especially since you have an issue.

i have a g35coupe with 245/35/19 and 295/35/19 yoko avs sport and i'm hesitating to put them on. the sidewall on the rears looks WAAAAY too big. I only thought of using them bc i had them, but looking at them, the sidewall of the rears is too big i think- even for stock height.

hey mlam002- what tires are you using and can i see a pic of of yoursetup, so i know more/less what to expect?

I've got a "BRAKE" warning light coming on... it started after i had to brake real hard one day when traffic suddenly stopped. Then it would do it only during hard acceleration. And now it's doing it all the damn time for no particular reason... WTF! Anyone have any ideas?

Did you check your brake fluid level or maybe your brake pads are too thin now?
