Default VG30DETT in a Z33?

Is it possible to slap a VG30DETT in a 350z? I've seen a few SR20DETs and RB26DETTs - is it a hard operation? Anybody know any details regarding these transplants?

-ilon.

Anything is possible with enough money. I personally think that swap is a bad idea. The other two swaps are nice because of the ease of building huge hp. The VG and VQ are already quite capable of making the same hp.

I disagree the VG can handle much more HP than the VQ, the VG on stock internals is capable of 550-600 RWHP, I highly doubt the VQ will get there and live long on stock internals.

That being said I would rather build up a VQ to say 9:1 CR and boost it to get to 550, much better lower response with the 9:1 instead of 8.5:1 and 3.5L instead of 3.0L

I don't want to get flamed for saying this but just because one Z32 made over 500rwhp on stock internals doesn't mean that it is to be done. I personally don't believe any of them have done it stock. Maybe reinforced stock internals, shot peened stock internals, cryo treated stock internals, and coated stock internals but not a block straight from Nissan. I had around 450rwhp on my Z32 before I upgraded the turbos which was a record in its own. I don't believe it would have lasted much longer or with upgraded turbos. That 450rwhp was with every bolt on possible at 17 psi on race gas.

I would go with modding the 3.5L engine. I've owned both cars ('96TT & '04ZR) bone stock and I love the low end torque of the 3.5L engine. The 3.0TT had 300HP, but made it with the turbos, resulting in not much grunt below 3000 RPM. That being said, the car was awesome if you kept the revs up, but a little slow off the line. The other factor is any 3.0TT you'd buy now is already 9 - 15 years old.

Well if you look at the sites it is done, I know of one personally of a friend that did it with his all on stock internals and original engine he hit 546 RWHP and I doubt is the lone in the country. His list of mods include:
HKS GT 2530 TURBOS
JWT DUAL INTAKE
POLISHED UPPER/LOWER PLENUMS
DIVORCED DOWNPIPES/TEST PIPES
GREDDY TYPE S BOVs / HARDPIPES / T-BOLTS
HKS HYPER EXHAUST
NISMO 555 INJECTORS
SX FPR
JWT ECU
HKS TWIN POWER
FULL UNORTHODOX PULLEY SET
HKS GROUND KIT
STILLEN INTERCOOLERS W/DUCTING

BUT ALL STOCK MOTOR:

Who knows.....maybe back when I was building my Z, we didn't have too much knowledge on the matter.....maybe I didn't have the nerve to even see if my car could make the power it was making on stock internals......maybe a whole list of maybes. Considering there were hundreds of built Z32s in this country and a couple made it on stock internals, I think I made the right decision to build it up.

Could be, I have only been in the Z32 scene a few years and nowadays it seems standard to think the VG can go 550 RWHP on stock internals. Who knows in 10 years people might be saying how the VQ can go to 500RWHP on stock internals

There are guys who make 740 to the wheels on a Z32 with Stock INternals on their VG30DETT....

VQ35... Good LUck!

If you build up a VG30DETT you can get over 1200HP..

Yes a VG30DETT are quite capable of over 500rwhp with stock internals, they come factory equipped with stout internals. Sean wagner (WAGZ) on tt.net made 744rwhp on his stock internal VG30DETT, Majority of Greg Dupree's customers and himself over at specialty Z runs stock internals on their 600rwhp+ cars. Escort Racing's Drag car is mustering 1200rwhp on their drag car, its not a stock internal, but its stock block, crank, heads, valves. Im not doubting on the VQ35DE engines, but little is known of these engines, but i bet with the right careful tuning big power can be made (not neccessarily meaning more then the VG tho). Personally i dealt with both, i had a 90 Twin-Turbo my self so i am not thinking biased.

well in a nutshell, the VG blocks alone weighs approx 1/3 more then the VQ35DE...if you were to weight engine plus drivetrain the VG30DETT trans and engine would weigh in roughly a 33% more in weight....if the weight difference isnt worth, you better look somewhere else, but if you are looking to make tons of power minus the tuning restrictions of OBD 2+ and would rather have the tuner friendly VG30DETT with OBDI look no further the VG has your answer.

A VG isnt a big motor, its just cramed in a small engine bay, its not like the 350z has the roomiest engine bay of the bunch either tho.

hmm so 1/3 more weight - that's like 115 lbs more, then you add turbos, that's another like 100 lbs....The car would kinda suck at traction with 215 more lbs on the other end of the car to try to transfer the weight over to the rear tires at launch.

I'll pass, that's for sure. A 300ZXTT would be a better drag car out of the box than doing all this stuff to a 350z

With that said, i am sure the handling would be adversely affected since the weight differences....but for drag racing, i wouldnt think its a bad setup.

Care to find a link? I don't think ANYONE has gone over 650rwhp on stock internals on a Z32TT.

If you build up a VQ35DE...same thing can be done.

Sean Wagner...here you go...im sure he isnt the first to do it either but he is one of the better known guys to do it. ( more like the biggest to brag)

http://www.nissanperformancemag.com/october03/wagner_z/

all thats done is stock rebuilt motor with swain coated stock pistons as far as internal goes, stock rods, stock crank blah blah blah.... either way its a very impressive car.
